I don't know. On the one hand, Severus and Lucius had to have maintained some kind of close connection once they left school, and even after Severus became a spy/Voldemort fell. I don't think Narcissa and Bellatrix would have approached him in book six if they hadn't.

On the other, Lucius seemed to genuinely care about his family. I don't know if he'd continue to have relations with Severus once he was married. And Severus was haunted by the memory of Lily's death.

He seemed to care about Draco, but I saw little evidence of his affection towards his wife. And I'm thinking Voldemort punished Lucius through Draco and not Narcissa for a reason. Theirs strikes me as very much marriage of convenience.

Yes, I was looking for a word for it yesterday and lost the battee, so thank you :P Lucius definitely seems like the kind of man who would rather do what was proper for appearance's sake, rather than what he truly wanted.

I think that Lucius felt an attraction to Severus all along, but Severus never returned it until Lily left him. Then he turned to Lucius for the love he had lost.

i can`t choose because all of you are correct. But there are little evidence about their relationships.

Most marriages in the Black and Malfoy families are for propriety and maintaining the Pure-Bloodlines. Bellatrix/Rodolphus are a good example of this; Sirius states as much. "Bellartix and Narcissa both made respectable Pure-Blood marriages". Seems only Andromeda had any real sense. :p


And I don't think Severus and Lucius would have had a deeper relationship until Severus was much older; Lucius is six years older than Severus. Lucius' last year at Hogwarts was Severus' first.
