Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer?

Because your freezer light is broken, probably.

If tu have a large stand up freezer - it should have a bulb in it. If it is just a chest - then the light from above should suffice. If the freezer is one of those small compartments above the fridge - it should not need one.
