Months had passed, and Erin was getting ready to start high school. She was a bit nervous, considering she was among the youngest in her grade. Her brother, Daniel, said, "You don't have to be scared. I'll be there." She said, "Thanks, Daniel. My friends will be there, too. It's good that I'll be seeing familiar faces." He said, "There tu go. tu won't be alone." Her first día wasn't so great. In her first class, one of her classmates put a kick me sign on her back. Luckily, when she left, her friend, Paul, noticed it and took it off. She asked, "What's going on, Paul?" He said, "This." He showed her the kick me sign. She said, "Thanks, Paul." He said, "You're welcome, Erin." Later, some of the popular girls kept calling her ugly. She tried to ignore them, but she was deeply sensitive. She pretended she needed to use the restroom so that she could be alone to cry. A few moments later, she heard her friend Allie say, "Erin, you've been in here a long time. Are tu okay?" Erin said, "I'm fine." Allie said, "You're crying. I know you're not. Come out and tell me what's wrong." Erin came out and said, "I'm having a bad day. High school sucks already." Allie hugged her and said, "The day's not over yet. Maybe it will turn good." Erin smiled and said, "I guess you're right." Allie said, "There's a smile. Now let's get back out there." Unfortunately, Erin's día did not turn good. At the end of the day, Erin tripped over her own feet and fell down. Everyone around her laughed. One of the popular girls said, "Oh, my God! Did tu just fall?" Erin dicho sarcastically, "No, I thought the floor needed a hug!" Another one of the popular girls said, "She's like the mayor of Klutzville. She like literally tripped over nothing." The popular girls continued to laugh. Another one said, "That was funny. Did tu think it was funny, Erin?" Erin dicho sarcastically, "That was so funny I forgot to laugh." They left her lying on the floor alone. She began to cry. She then heard someone shouting. "Erin! Erin!" It was Paul. She looked up. He asked, "Are tu all right? What happened?" She said, "I tripped over my own feet, and I fell down. The popular girls made fun of me." He said, "That's just absurd! Even if they aren't your friends, they should still ask if you're okay just out of human kindness!" He helped her up. She said, "Thanks." He said, "You're welcome. Are tu okay now?" She said, "Yeah, I think so." When she got home, she told her aunt and uncle about her day. Her aunt said, "I'm sorry tu had a bad day, Erin. Don't get discouraged, though. The segundo día is never as bad as the first." Erin went back the siguiente day. Her aunt was right. The segundo día was a good day. Erin knew she would make it through with a little help from her friends. At the end of the day, she walked out with her friends canto the Beatles song, "With a Little Help From My Friends". The popular girls made fun of them, but they didn't care. They had each other. Who needs popular girls anyway? They're nothing but a bunch of preppy bitches.
When I had entered the fifth grade, I was dreading it. I had heard rumors that the teacher was really mean. When I met her before school started, she seemed really nice. On the first día of school, I was wearing one of my Beatles t-shirts. She noticed it, and she said, "Darling, I amor tu already!" I said, "Okay, then." She would take up for me all the time. The other kids often called me glasses. She heard them and said, "She has a name, guys. Her name is not glasses. It's Winter." There was one día when another girl kept picking on me. I finally had enough and said, "I might look sweet and innocent, but that shit is for suckers, and I'm no lollipop." I looked at the teacher. She winked and said, "I heard nothing." I would have had her for the sixth grade, too, but unfortunately, I moved to Tennessee as soon as the school año was over. We both cried. We promised to keep in touch with each other, and we've kept in touch to this day.
