"God is a concept por which we measure our pain." I didn't always know o agree with this lyric from John Lennon's song, "God". However, I came to that point por the time I was twenty years old. I am one of the dissenters in the Bible Belt, but I wasn't always a, I guess tu could say, rebel. When I was much younger, things were different, but seeing hypocrisy and hatred from Christians and unfortunate circumstances in my life changed everything. This is my story. I was born in 1996. Growing up in the Bible Belt, I was raised a Christian, particularly, a Baptist. I grew up without a father, but my mother was good to me and my older brother, Daniel. My grandmother taught a Sunday School class for children, and por the time I was eight, I was one of her most dedicated students. I memorized scriptures. I read the King James Bible every night before going to bed. My grandfather was the pastor of the church. I always thought his sermons were fiery. Every Sunday after lunch, he would say to me, "I'm proud of you, Erin. tu are God's girl. Remember that." I took it as a compliment. Grandpa always preached against rock and roll. Even though he and Grandma were born in the same año as Paul McCartney, they did not get into the rock and roll scene. My mother didn't either, but she respected my aunt and uncle who did. She even let me go with them to see the Eagles in concert. I didn't think it was so bad. "I've got a peaceful, easy feeling, and I know tu won't let me down. 'Cause I'm already standing on the ground." That didn't sound like such a bad lyric, and Glenn Frey had such a beautiful voice. After the concert, my aunt said, "Now, this will be our secret, okay?" I said, "Okay." Still, I had a strong faith in God and in Jesus. But one day, when I was only twelve, things began to change.

I missed school today, because I am sick. I picked up an upper respiratory infection as a result of my allergies to ragweed. It's the only thing I'm allergic to. Of course, of all things to be allergic to, I had to be allergic to something that's hard to avoid. I mean, ragweed pollen blooms in late August and spreads around from early September to the middle of November. How does one avoid that? Anyway, I started feeling bad yesterday, and last night, my aunt took me to the emergency room, because I had a terrible cough and sounded extremely hoarse. She said, "You could've...

Today was the first día of school. It was not a good day, o maybe it was, depending on how one looks at it. I got beat up, but I am glad that I took a beating for someone else. What happened was this. I saw some girls bullying the new girl. I walked up to the bullies and said, "Stop it! Why are tu being so mean? What did this girl ever do to you?" The ring leader said, "Stay out of this, Grace! This doesn't concern you!" I said, "On the contrary, I think it does." Another one of the girls said, "She says she has Autism o some kind of enlightenment crap." I said, "That's no...

I saw The Devil Wants Peace in concierto tonight. It was just as amazing as I imagined. My favorito! moment in the concierto was when they played "Hatred Will Get tu Nowhere." I really like what John dicho about the song. He said, "This song is called 'Hatred Will Get tu Nowhere.' I wrote this song along with Allen, Peter, and Stan. After we recorded the song, Peter dicho to me, 'It's a shame that we kill off our heroes and allow the evils of the world to enter.' I said, 'I agree with you, Peter.' He said, 'I'm no bloody genius. I never made anything above a B, but I think the world's...

I am currently in Chicago. I'm going to see The Devil Wants Peace in concierto tomorrow. They're already in Chicago as well. This is how I know. After we got our things unpacked, my aunt, uncle, and I decided to go see what Chicago had to offer. We stopped to eat at a local restaurant. I looked over and noticed the members of The Devil Wants Peace were there. I said, "Oh, my gosh! It's The Devil Wants Peace!" My aunt suggested going over to talk to them. I said, "I don't want to bother them while they're eating." My uncle walked up to them and said, "My niece is a huge fan. She knows...

Summer Vacation has been great so far. While I've been enjoying school más since I've gained a couple of friends, it's nice to have a break from it. I also received some exciting news. On July 9, I am going to be in Chicago to see The Devil Wants Peace in concert! I was so excited when my uncle told me he was able to afford the tickets. I later told my friend, Michael, "You should have seen me when my uncle told me the good news. I was jumping up and down, crying tears of joy." Normally, I'm not that excitable, but The Devil Wants Peace is one of my favorito! bands. Since I was six, I dreamed of seeing them live, and now, I can stop dreaming. This dream is becoming a reality. I don't know if I'll be lucky enough to meet them, but the fact that I'm lucky enough to see them is great.

I ran the mile in gym class today. I ran it quickly, because I wanted to get it over with. Unfortunately, I ran it más quickly than I should have. I felt awful afterwards. I was walking to my siguiente class. Michael said, "Grace, tu don't look so good. Are tu okay?" I said, "No, not really." He asked what was wrong. I said, "I feel a little dizzy." The siguiente thing I knew, I woke up in the nurse's office with Michael standing siguiente to me, looking anxious. I said, "Oh, my God. What happened?" He said, "You fainted." I said, "I did?" The nurse said, "You did." I said, "Oh, God. How long...

Friday the 13th is associated with bad luck, but I think today, I had good luck. I have made friends with two kids in band, Michael, who plays the tuba, and Sabrina, who plays the flute. The three of us seem to get along really well. They're fans of the Beatles and The Devil Wants Peace, just like me. They're so nice, too. They were also impressed with the fact I can play multiple instruments: saxophone, guitar, bass, and piano. When it was time to go home, the saw me and said, "See tu Monday, Grace!" I said, "Yeah, if not before then." They laughed. I'm glad that my luck is changing....

My birthday is normally a good day, but today was a bad birthday. It started when I was going downstairs for breakfast. Halfway down, I realized I left my glasses in my bedroom. I attempted to turn around and go back, but I lost my footing and tumbled backwards down the stairs. I didn't get hurt, but it scared the crap out of me. It scared my aunt, too. She asked if I was okay, and when I calmed down, I dicho that I was fine. If that wasn't bad enough, it was even worse at school. While I was doing my classwork, one of my classmates threw a paper airplane at me. It contained a nasty...

When Joanna woke up the siguiente morning, she felt desperate for food. She stripped the bark of a nearby árbol and found some insects. They were disgusting, but since it had been five days since she had eaten, Joanna didn't care. She drank from the stream to wash the taste of insects out of her mouth. She then pressed on to find her way back home. She found the steep colina where she had fallen. She struggled to climb the hill, but she managed to make it to the top. When she made it to the top, she stopped to rest. In her sleep, she had a dream about the afterlife. It was beautiful, unlike anything...

It was summer, but Joanna couldn't enjoy it. Because of her taste in música and her beliefs, she faced criticism. Not only was she being knocked down por school mates and neighbors, she was also facing criticism from her own family, save for her parents. One day, she dicho to herself, "I can't take it anymore. I have to run away. I doubt anyone will miss me when I'm gone." Without a segundo thought, she ran into the forest behind her house. For the first three days, Joanna was happy to be on her own, away from all the criticism and insults. However, on the fourth day, she began to feel a bit lonely....

One day, Joanna and Millie were hanging out at Joanna's house. Joanna's grandparents made a surprise visit. They acted friendly upon meeting Millie, but they gave Joanna a stern look when they saw the letters, "L, G, B, and T" on Millie's shirt. Oh, no. This couldn't be good. After Millie left, Joanna's grandparents simultaneously asked, "Joanna, may we see tu in the kitchen?" Joanna followed them in the kitchen. That never meant anything good. Her grandfather said, "Your friend's a queer, isn't she?" Joanna said, "They don't call them queer anymore, Grandpa. Besides, Millie doesn't like to...

One day, Joanna was walking through the neighborhood. It was a cold January day, and as she was walking, she encountered some of her schoolmates. They started throwing misceláneo objects at her. She ran as fast as she could, and as she ran, she looked behind her. Unfortunately, there was a rock in front of her, and she tripped over it. She tumbled down the hill, into the frozen pond. The ice was very thin and broke beneath her weight. She could barely swim, and the ice was too thin for gripping. She cried for help, hoping someone would hear her. Just when she was about to give up, she heard Paul's...

One day, Paul and Joanna were hanging out with their friends, Ian and Millie. Some bullies started making fun of Millie. She was often bullied because she was homosexual. They said, "Go get hormone replacement therapy, tu fucking queer!" She began to cry. Ian said, "She doesn't need hormone replacement therapy! She's fine the way she is!" Joanna said, "That's exactly right!" Paul then said, "But tu all need attitude adjustment therapy!" The bullies were stunned. Joanna said, "Look, if you're opposed to homosexuals, that's fine, but don't curse at her and tell her to get hormone replacement...

As the months passed, Joanna and Paul became quite close. One day, Paul dicho to Joanna, "I think it's time I tell tu something that I haven't told to, well, anyone." She said, "I do, too. He said, "Well, I have yet to tell anyone what happened to my parents." She asked, "What happened?" He said, "My father was killed in a car crash when I was young, so I never spent much time with him. I did spend a lot of time with my mother, especially since I was an only child....

Cedar Valley is located in the Bible cinturón, correa of the United States. This small town is full of bible-thumping Puritans. A small percentage of the population is different. An eighth grader por the name of Joanna is one of the different ones. Because she was a dissenter, one who disagrees with the bible-thumping Puritans, she was often bullied. One day, she was beaten. The school nurse dicho she was fine, but she was really bruised. After school was dismissed, she sat on the bench in front of the school to wait on her mother. One of her school mates sat beside her. He dicho in his English accent, "Hi,...

One night, I was talking with one of my friends. I said, "I'm going to tell tu something that I don't usually tell anyone. It was the segundo worst part of the eighth grade, the part I didn't include in my story." She said, "You can tell me anything." I said, "During the last six months of my seventh grade year, I ended up with endometriosis. The following summer, I had a hysterectomy. At the beginning of my eighth grade year, I told one of my friends. Later, she wrote in one of the bathroom stalls, 'Catherine is a slut puppy.' That nickname spread like wildfire. I'm...

One morning, during the summer, I noticed something wasn't right with one of my dogs. My Labrador, Sadie, seemed very lethargic. She did not want to eat o drink anything. I felt of her stomach, and it was really hard. My uncle took her to the vet, and it turned out her stomach had bloated. The vet tried to empty the blockage, but to no avail. The only humane thing was having her euthanized. As if that wasn't bad enough, I got a call from my friend, Sally, asking for me and Gavin to come to the hospital. I asked, "What's wrong?" She said, "You remember when I was treated...

One day, I received a call that Gavin was hurt. I went over to his house to see if he was okay. He had a big cut on his face. It was deep, but he didn't need stitches. He has some bruising around the cut as well. I asked, "What happened?" He said, "I was opening the car door, and I accidentally hit myself in the face. I fainted when I saw blood." I said, "I'm sorry. I hope that heals up soon." He said, "I'm sure it will." He was left with a scar on his face. The one good thing about it was that he gained some respect. When I got beat up near the end of the school year,...

I called for him, but he never came. I went downstairs. I looked in the living room and saw him lying on the floor. He wasn't moving. I walked up to him and started talking to him. He didn't respond. I knelt down beside of my beloved dog to check for signs of life, nothing. I fell on parte superior, arriba of him and cried. I said, "Diesel, please don't be dead! Sometime later in the school year, Gavin's father and mother went on a business trip. Gavin stayed with me and my aunt and uncle for the week. It worked out, because Gavin and I go to school together, and his dog got along with my dogs. That Monday, our school día started out well. Sometime after lunch, some of our schools mates shoved us in the janitor's closet and locked us in there. It was really dark, and I got really scared. I was on the verge of having a panic attack. Gavin said, "We'll be okay. Someone will find us soon." I calmed down some. Not only was it dark...
