well.. I guess this pick is about insulting OUAT actresses then.
Yes, most beautiful picks are superficial and frankly insulting to the actors. Much like beauty pageants, no one cares about how beautiful Ms. Mississippi is on the inside it all about whats on the outside.
really... I would have rather kept this thoughts to myself, and resume to my first comment. But it just pisses me off that people think ouat fans pick gina as least pretty because she's evil. maybe some do. I can only speak for myself. I pick only looks here.
I feel the same about Rumps. I've had a crush on Robert Carlyle since the Full Monty, but in FTL in find him absolutely repulsive. The flakey skin, the creepy laugh... it gives me the creepy crawlies. Of course in Storybrook he's transformed into the wonderfully charming, thickly accented Rob.
When I'm doing these most beautiful picks I tend to take the more generous approach and try to think of them at their most attractive moment.
look at her:
link
is this how the ugliest of them all looks?
link
At no point on OUAT does Maleficent look the way Kristen does in those photos. You mentioned Gina having some unflattering outfits. I'm not sure what Mal did to piss off the wardrobe department but they were not kind to her.
hey I'm just talking about the Characters here. And their Look.
And how the heck are her breasts saggy (why do we even have to bring boobs into this one?)? I don't see how these are saggy; link

And then there's the 'round tummy' comment. If Regina is fat then what is skinny? Are all of these actresses supposed to be paper thin? Lana is an actress not a model. Regina isn't fat, at all--everyone has at least a little tummy, people need some fat to be healthy. And honestly, even if she was a bigger woman she'd still be pretty, just because someone is heavier does not mean they are ugly. The last part about the make up and hair isn't too offensive, but I'd still like to say that she's the evil queen not the glittering fairy of rainbows. Her make up isn't supposed to be cutesy it's meant to be creepy, and creepy (in my opinion) doesn't necessarily mean ugly.
And it pisses me off when people don't know how to be nice when stating their opinions. I'm sorry, but that whole comment bugged me a little (maybe I'm over analyzing here but) not only was that an insult to Regina, but also to Lana and heavier people (weather that was your intent or not, it was an insult to all of the above. I have yet to see you say anything kind of Lana) as well as a giant middle finger to her fans. You could've left it at 'I don't think Regina is attractive and it's because of her personality, but her looks' you didn't have to call her fat.
This is pretty much why I hate picks like these so much, it gives people the opportunity to go crazy with the insults. It gives them an excuse for it. And opens the actresses and characters up to ridicule. I know not everyone does it, but a handful of people who do kind of ruin it for other fans. I have been picking Cindy this whole time (except this round) and have not insulted Cindy at all, I have the decadency to keep it to myself. I don't mean any offense to the asker of the pick, she did nothing wrong, it's the voters.
there ARE reasons. I've stated them. So.. just deal with it!
Again there is a respectful way to state your opinions and a disrespectful way. I am sorry, but calling someone fat and saying they have saggy breasts isn't the most respectful vocalized opinion I've read. Lose the attitude that is really irritating. Geez. Not once have I given you attitude, and I apologize if that's how you interpreted it, that's not how I meant to come off. And before any assumptions are made, I'm not yelling either.
I DID say the super-tight dresses she wears show off a round, unaesthetic tummy. I thought we were talking beauty, right?!! LOOKS. I didn't make this pick. It looks unaesthetic.
In the first picture you gave: her boobs ARE saggy. Normal boobs shouldn't be that low.
you go saying there are no LOOKS-related reasons to vote gina off, that is bias. And when I come and give you my reasons you're all pissed off. YOU'VE ASKED FOR IT. here they are! DEAL WITH IT.
I was not the one who said that. I said some fans pick based on a dislike of character. And someone on your pick did vote that they based their picks on favorite characters. If it wasn't you all you had to say was 'I'm not voting biasedly' I would have believed it. Again I never asked for reasons, I just had the misfortune of reading them. Can we not cuss? I said pissed once (twice now) and I shouldn't have, so can we quit with the swearing, not necessary. And neither is the attitude, I will ask nicely, can you please drop the attitude and talk to me maturely.
@kataralover Yeah that 3rd one wasn't her best shot. That's good ^_^
No, it does not mean she's fat. It means she doesn't have a flat stomach and shouldn't wear hose dresses if she wants to compete as most beautiful.
You can look nice with round shapes. Best example: Belle. She looks gorgeous, aesthetic.
Well it sure sounded like you called her fat. Can you please be more clear when bringing something up like that.
Basically what I'm saying is, let's just stop for a minute, cool down and discuss this again more kindly. I don't like fighting with people over the net, and I'm quite sure you don't either. If you want to work with me (meaning any attitude from either of us is dropped) I'd be more than happy to work with you. Frankly the two of us managed to blow this whole thing out of proportion and I don't think it's a good idea to continue any further discussion like this.
Here is a proof: link

She has tummy, but she is still smokin' hot.
maybe the whole pick is wrong then. I don't see why it's not fair to pick gina, but it's fair to pick other gorgeous women.
I get it! you all have your reasons. us, the ones voting for gina, have ours too. so back off.
And can I please get a response to; Basically what I'm saying is, let's just stop for a minute, cool down and discuss this again more kindly.
It's my peacemaking statement, I would like to know if you want to forgive and forget or forgive and start over.
I'm afraid this argument is partly my fault I made an observation and an assumption hoping that someone would give me a more reasonable explanation. I'd forgotten how heated this fandom gets on this topic. On the other hand I'm also somewhat wickedly pleased because I was able to get my explanation and so much more. >cue rather sheepish evil cackle<
@zanhar, you may have noticed I had a bit of a discussion with Claudia because her comment lead me to believe that she was voting for Gina based purely on her dislike for the character. However, she was able to convince me that there were other reasons and even though I don't necessarily agree with them I can understand them.
From what i understand claudia believes that some of Gina wardrobe is unflattering to her body shape. Although i don't necessarily agree that she has "sagging breasts" I can see how the cut of the neck line on some of her dresses would give that impression. That third picture you posted, which you admitted was not the best, is a good example of that. The cut on both her and Mal's dress makes it look like their bossisms are just days away from becoming ripe and falling to the ground (bit of humor there).
As for her "round tummy" you yourself admitted that Lana is not a model and the sad truth is that ONLY models truly look good in tight pencil dresses. I am a skinny person, to the point where I was called pencil and toothpick in school. Still I have yet to put on a slinky dress that didn't make me feel as if I was hiding a small barrel near my mid-region.
I personally prefer Gina's more conservative mayor-of-Storybrook wardrobe. The collars are higher and the fabric looser, but it hugs her curves in all the right places (her hips and waist) and the short skirts and tight leggings show off her gorgeous legs. Also the pop of color we get in any clothing she wears when she's not completely miserable (e.i. young Gina, mayor Gina) really brings out her exotic complexion.
Best example: link
link
I believe Lana looks more comfortable it these classier outfits and that can make the difference between beautiful and "not quite right".
I'm telling you all this not to rekindle the argument but to try to explain what I think I learned from claudia. I'd also like to say that claudia never actually said Gina was ugly just that her sort of looks just don't do anything for her.
@claudia_bb
I enjoyed hearing your point of view but you do have a sort of uncompromising attitude sometimes. For example your first comment:
"yeah, sure.. Is that easier than to accept that really gina is not beautiful? For some of us, ouat fans. Deal with it, for me: she's not hot."
It sort of felt like you were looking for a fight. If you had dropped the "yeah, sure" and the "Deal with it" and just explained that you didn't find Regina's look attractive and that you thought her body didn't suit her wardrobe you wouldn't have received such defensive replies.
I actually appreciate your abrupt manner of speaking because it encouraged me to strike up a conversation and i was able to learn your view on things but just so you know this is the "attitude" that zanhar and magichand were referring too.
One last thing. You mentioned Belles outfits and how even with her "round shape" she still looks "gorgeous" and "aesthetic". For the most part I agree with you. I love Belle's cozy thrift shop look. She looks the picture of the young hip librarian and it fits her personality and her body shape like a glove. But even Belle has had her off days. Remember the adventurer outfit from The Outsider?

Talk about sagging breasts! If you tripped and fell you might never find your way out. You'd be swallowed by her bulging bossisms. A little vulgar yes, but is not I that brought up OUAT breasts.
btw. Belle's breasts are very up-high in that picture. That's not sagging. Gosh, maybe it's the age too.
@minervadawn Naw it's cool, you wanted a reason, you had the right to ask for some.
Yeah I saw that conversation.
Yeah I can see where she would get that in the last picture. My big thing though is people need to be careful and mindful of how they word things. People here seem to overstep the boundaries of voicing an opinion and being just plain mean. Lol ripe boobies.
I would agree to that, it's pretty much exactly what I was trying to say. And the thing with those models, many of them throw up or starve themselves to maintain that weight. But yeah, sometimes the costume designers need to do some more work. I personally love Gina's cloths, but a few can use some work.
Once again totally agree. I love her mayor wardrobe! simple yet beautiful. Though I love the sparklieness, complexity, and gothic look of her Evil Queen dresses I always preferred madam mayor and her looks to the Evil Queen's. I love Lana in those bushiness suits. They are cute and sophisticated and as you said, outline her body in just the right places, to her advantage without making her look like a slut (not that any of her other outfits did).
That one was actually my favorite Gina outfit. It was so simple yet elegant. Lana actually did do an interview in which she said she was more comfy wearing the mayor's cloths; as the evil queen she confessed that the dresses squeezed the crap out of her lol.
Don't worry I didn't take it as an argument. I welcome other people's opinions.
And just to confirm (no offense intended, so I'll apologize in advance if I do offend you Claudia) that is the attitude I was referring to and I'll admit when given attitude (in real life too) it will make my responses more harsh and out of line. Attitude is a real peeve of mine especially when I am trying to stay level headed.
Thank you for a well thought out discussion mineravadawn.
I apologize if I sounded condescending. I was just trying to point out what sort of things set people, myself included, off. It is difficult to convay tone or intent over the internet. I did not intend to appear "schooling". I hope you understand that I ment no offense. You have every right to express yourself however you want.
You're right "sagging" is not the right word for that dress but it is not as flattering as most of Belle's dresses.
@zanhar1
Thank you for your well thought out reply.
I haven't seen the other fans, disliking other characters from OUAT, being so attacked as the non-gina-lovers.
@claudia That's not true. I don't mean to make you or any other Regina nonfan feel particularly hated.I try to keep things equal. And despite what you may or may not think I don't hate you or Yvonne. I don't necessarily agree with you two but I don't hate you guys. And can you try to understand that you aren't the only ones who feel like they get a special treatment. You don't know how many times I logged off of fanpop after one of these arguments feeling (particularly in regards to Graham's death) like people hated me. It works both ways. Each part of the fandom feels outcasted in one way or another.
Part of it is that people who hate the other characters don't outright call the character they hate ugly, naive, chubby, or in some cases even bitch (that was not you or Yvonne). People tend to respond more negatively to comments like that than comments like 'oh I hate ___." Kataralover on this very pick technically called Regina ugly but no one went off on her because she didn't use name calling. What I'm trying to say is it isn't anything personal.
And I also am not trying to sound like I'm lecturing or full of myself. I'm just trying to hopefully make peace.
Thank you for understanding. I can see how you can feel ganged up on. (you rather valiantly fended off myself, zantar and magichand singlehandedly) The reason I referenced your comment is so that you could avoid offending Gina lovers when you express your opinion. It is a very delicate skill (they are a passionate bunch and easy to set off).
I like almost all OUAT at about the same level. Emma, Snow, Belle, Rumple, and Gina and all equal in my book. I love them all and they all occasionally do things that annoy me. The only characters that I'm not really a fan of are Cindy (I'll admit it I hate her) Charming (because he bores me, but I like him with Snow) and Hook (because his penis joke really turn me off). Now I can sympathize with you there try telling Captain Swan shippers that you don't find Hook attractive, now that's walking into a minefield.
I personally don't like being told that I am wrong in my opinion. I love it when people tell me why they disagree so I can understand why they feel the way they do. But when the refuse to accept my opinion as equally valid even if they don't agree that's when I tune out. I didnt get that impression from you. I felt like you made some valid point that I even agree with to some degree. Thank you for helping me to understand your point of veiw.
@zanhar. We basically agree on most things, although I do agree with claudia in that I'm not a fan of the evil queen dresses, but thanks for backing me up.
Anyhow, yeah you held up really well 3 against 1. I know how that feels it's really hard to do, I've been there before.
It's my name Zanny and my sister's name.
Yeah, things get crazy here...
