I kept running, hoping I would find some form of cover under the árbol canopies. I jumped over logs, fallen branches that were buried in the snow, and the once moss eaten earth.
It almost felt like I was flying.
I could feel the panic in my mind, and yet, I still felt that adrenaline rush, and adventure to everything. I still felt home. How come even though I feel panic, and worry in my mind, I still felt like nothing could touch me in my heart. I felt almost invincible. I felt total confidence, power, love, and pain. I started to slow down, just now starting to feel the cold chill up my spine. I could see my breath, and I wrapped my arms around my self and looked around, seeing if I could find an opening through the trees to a small town o something. Suddenly, there was a sound that I never wanted to hear again.
Musical laughter echoing through the forest.
I froze in place, not wanting to move. The laughter grew louder and louder as if it was getting closer. I could feel beads of sweat on my neck. The laughter gave me ganso bumps, it felt like razor blades cutting my skin. I took a step and the laughter became a shriek. I turned around and saw a shadow move. My eyes grew huge and I could feel my breath catch in my throat.
Two green eyes were staring at me.
“What is that?” I whispered softly under my breath. The snow was now starting to seep through my converse, making my feet numb. But I couldn’t move. The green eyes boring through me. It was almost hypnotizing in the same terrifying way. I couldn’t control my own mind anymore. All my memories seemed to be seeping through my ears.
What was happening?
Suddenly there was blackness. And all I could remember was a yell and the green eyes were gone.
* * * * * * * * *
Shadows danced across my mind, terrifying imágenes of blood, and pain.
And then there was my dad.
I knew I was crying because I could feel the hot tears fall down my face. But I couldn’t seem to open my eyes. I screamed to him, but I might as well be whispering, because he didn’t look up at me. He only lied in a fetal position, shutting the rest of the world out. It felt like there was a muro between us, I pounded on the wall, but he still didn’t move. He didn’t see me, he was lifeless. He looked just the same way I saw him last. His favorito! shirt, with AC/DC on it, and his faded blue jeans, and his watch that he always wore until the band started to ware out. His messy hair cut, his brown eyes staring sadly at me. His wedding ring on his left hand. The tears kept spilling out. I screamed even louder, knowing that, that won’t do anything. I kept pounding on the wall. Then the beam of light started to fade until I couldn’t see him anymore. I screamed louder, and louder, but nothing happened. And then as if things couldn’t get any worse, I started to fall. The floor from underneath me, disappeared and I fell into a black pit of nothingness.
And I woke up.
I didn’t recognize where I was at all. I was in a tiny little room with cloth as the walls. A tiny fuego was lit in the middle, and I saw a hole at the parte superior, arriba were the smoke was billowing out of. Animal furs were laid on parte superior, arriba of me, they were so thick I was actually sweating, but not from the immense warmth.
I was in a tent.
It was kind of like one of those Indian tents, except there were no drawings o decorations, just a plain white tent. I pulled the furs off of me and threw my feet off of the bed. An actual bed. Not as comfortable as mine at home, but a real bed, not one of those lame cots at summer camp. I stood up and quickly felt a roll of nausea go through me, and I fell back down on the bed. Cupping my mouth with my hand, and trying to take even breathes.
It felt like I was hit por a truck.
“You better take it easy. The Gheera took a lot of your energy. Nasty creatures really.” dicho a cool musical voice. My eyes whipped to the entrance, and I saw a short girl with long, curly, black hair. She was ridiculously beautiful and I felt a pang of jealousy shoot through me. She had blue tatuajes on her arms, face, and legs. Ceremonial maybe. Her green eyes stood out from everything else though. The firelight reflected off of them as if they were water. She stopped and she made me realize that I gasped in amazement. “I won’t hurt you, I promise.” My voice caught in my throat. She slowly, but gracefully walked over the short distance and siguiente to the bed. Another pang of jealousy made its way through my body. Who was she? And why does she have to be so beautiful? I couldn’t help but make comparisons. So my self confidence only made me más depressed. “You were pretty lucky this time. Having most of your memories taken like that por force.” she went on like she knew me.
“Who are you?” I whispered and just stared at her. She looked at me, confused, but then grinned a little bit.
“My name is Lea.” She then tucked a strand of jet black hair behind her ear and looked down. I gasped again. She wasn’t human. Her ear was pointed. This couldn’t be happening. I felt like I was sucked into a fairy tale.
“You’re an elf.” I mumbled, frantic. She looked up suddenly at me.
“There are very few of us left. How do tu know what I am? tu don’t look like your from here. Are tu even human?” She dicho cautiously. I nodded.
“I’ve only read about tu in fairy tales, and yet, I never even thought tu really existed.” I breathed. She glared, and yet she still looked amazingly beautiful.
“We prefer it that way. And don’t go spreading tales about us little one otherwise I will cut your throat in your sleep.” she threatened.
“What’s with all the hostility?” I asked, trying to sound calm, but my hand flew up to my throat protectively anyway. Her glare didn’t relax.
“Are tu with the kings army? Spy?” She practically spat that last word through her teeth like it was a curse.
“What are tu talking about? Who’s the king?” I asked. I thought I was in Colorado. She looked confused but was still on her guard.
“Don’t toy with me tu little parasite!” She hissed and pulled out a short sword, the blade glowed in the firelight, I saw its reflection in her eyes. Vines and flores were carved into the steel. The handle, perfectly welded fluently. I could only stare, mesmerized.
“Look. I have no idea what your talking about. Why do tu think the ‘king’ would send someone like me who sticks out like a sore thumb to spy on someone like you?” I asked bewildered. I saw a certainty of thought flash across her face. Her eyes fluttered and she twitched. She pulled back and re-sheathed her sword. A small smirk took the place of her frown.
“You seem pretty proud of yourself, just for coming up with that excuse. I’ll let tu live, for now. But don’t think that tu can get away with anything. o I’ll make sure tu won’t have to make that mistake ever again. I will be watching you.” She dicho and stood up.
Great, I’ve been here a couple of hours and I already have a stalker.
“Great. Awesome. So can tu please tell me where I am?” I dicho slowly standing up, feeling only a small pang of pain flash through my head.
She looked at me like I just ate a frog.
“Are tu as stupid as tu look? o do tu just like actuación like tu don’t know anything?” she spat.
“Um, stupid is kind of a harsh word don’t ya think?” I asked sarcastically. Her eyes blazed. “No, I really don’t know where the hell I am.” I mumbled and rolled my eyes, knowing she won’t let her guard down at all.
That’s annoying.
“First, tu tell me who tu are, little girl.” she hissed and stared curiously at me, and looked me up and down.
“Okay, first off, elf girl, I’m not a little girl. I’m sixteen. Secondly its Alexandra. Thank tu very much.” I dicho folding my arms. She rolled her eyes.
“I like the comeback.” she mumbled sarcastically. I shrugged.
“Ya, well, I try. Now tell me. Where. Am. I?”
“I still can’t believe tu don’t know. We’re in Austaire.”
“Austaire.” I breathed. I didn’t remember this place being dicho anywhere in World History. “Weird. I mean, it this actually a country?”
She nodded.
“Where are we specifically?”
“We are por the Foreh River, South of the Golden Mountains, and Sadira Forest.”
“Where are we planning on going next?”
“We, as in me and my kinsmen are planning on leaving first thing in the morning. tu on the other hand, are going west, away from me as possible.” she mumbled.
“What’s west?”
“Wow, tu really don’t know anything do you?”
“Not here anyway. Now stop insulting me and just tell me what west is!” I hissed back at her. Her frown returned.
“West is where the Centers Collide.”
“What’s that?”
She looked at me like I’ve just slapped her.
“This is really confusing to me. And it seems tu know what I should do.”
“Well, its más like a request. tu can go wherever. Except with us. ”
“I don’t know where to go.”
“How did tu get here?”
“Through a cave, in a forest, por my house.”
“That’s very specific.”
“Oh, never mind. It won’t be too good to go back there, it disappeared as soon as I stepped out of it.”
“Strange. I’ve never heard of anything like it. tu must go west, it’s obvious that this is not your home, so tu must leave. Immediately. Especially since war is almost on our doorstep.”
“Trust me. I’m planning on leaving as soon as I can. But..wait, war? What happened?”
“I will not tell tu anything. This does not concern you, and tu don’t have any business about it. So tu should get going, now.”
“Thank tu Captain Obvious, but I don’t know where I’m going. Do tu know anyone who might be able to, oh I don’t know. Guide me?”
“Why would I have one of my kinsmen risk their life, to protect and guide you?” she placed her hands on her hips and stared at me questioningly.
“I don’t know. Just something. It doesn’t have to be someone. Isn’t there like, oh I don’t know, a magical item that can lead me to him?” She stared at me thoughtfully.
“I do actually. But I would rather not trust an outsider with it.” she dicho with narrowed eyes. Suddenly the tents door opened. She immediately whipped around, pulling her sword out in the process. Two men walked in, making the small el espacio even más crowded.
“Whoa Lea! It’s just us!” dicho one of the men. He had long shaggy brown hair, his green eyes mostrando out from underneath his eyelashes. He wore a tattered, muddy cloak, and filth covered boots. I could tell he worked out a lot, because his tan bare chest was mostrando from underneath an open black shirt. Black leather pants were holding a single sword was in a sheath that was tied to a huge cinturón, correa around his waist. He looked a bit menacing. He paused and suddenly looked at me. A huge smile crossed his face. His shiny white teeth shown through his filth covered face. “Ello, who’s this?” he asked in a husky voice. I saw Lea turn her head towards me, that same frown crossed her lips.
“No one Logan. Just an intruder. We need to keep going. Now.” she hissed. Logan, looked at her with amused eyes. She looked back at him. Something seemed to pass between the two. A sweep of emotion crossed their eyes and disappeared in a second. Immediately Lea turned her attention to the segundo man. “Did tu boys find anything?” she asked cautiously. The man, looked up, and I felt myself gasp.
He was ridiculously handsome.
He had the same shaggy brown hair except his was curlier, and a bit shorter. He had a chiseled jaw line, and gorgeous blue eyes that were radiating from underneath his long eyelashes. His face was covered with filth, but his dazzling grin made up for that. He was wearing a tattered black cloak, filth covered boots with what looked like vines etched into the leather, and a gray shirt. The man shoved the blade of his sword into the ground and leaned against it. Grinning amused. Gloves covered his dirty fingers. He was not as handsome as Logan, but was super cute.
“Well, Logan found a mad squirrel, other than that. Nothing.” he dicho squishing his nose in a teasing way.
Logan cracked up.
Lea crossed her arms in a disapproving way.
“I can’t trust tu two to do anything can I?” she hissed again. The man rolled his eyes and re-sheathed his sword.
“You are so over dramatic Lea.” he dicho staring at her. She huffed.
“We found a long trail of soldiers marching towards the Foreh River.” he dicho finally, getting serious. Lea’s eyes grew huge.
“Why are they heading there!?” she asked frantically. The man shrugged. “Tristan! We have to stop them! They’re heading towards the village!” she dicho louder. Tristan crossed his arms.
“I know that. I talked to father a week ago. They are ready. And if they need help, they will send Raven. tu know this sister.” Tristan dicho laid back.
Lea looked at him like he just took off his clothes.
“How in the hell can tu say that!?” she screamed. Tears started to spill out over her cheeks. Tristan sighed. Logan took a step to close the el espacio between them and wrapped her in his arms. Protectively.
I suddenly felt like I shouldn’t be here.
I turned my head slightly and saw an opening behind me. I quickly forced myself to squeeze through the small el espacio and got my foot caught on a piece of the fabric of the tent and fell on something solid.
“Hey! Watch where you’re going.” dicho a high pitched voice. I looked up and saw a girl about my size. She had brown eyes, and long black hair. Her tan skin shimmered in the streams of sunlight. She wore a red camisa, camiseta that cut off halfway on her arms, and showed her flat stomach. She wore a falda that looked like it had half of the bottom torn off, and she was barefoot.
She was insanely beautiful.
I felt another pang of jealousy. Why can’t I be that beautiful? It wasn’t fair.
I pouted.
The girls brown eyes went wide with surprise, and she looked me up and down, inspecting. I wrapped my arms around myself, self conscious. Finally after a minuto of looking at me in silence I got annoyed.
“What are tu staring at?” I asked maybe a little too harshly. She looked at me like I just slapped her.
“Who are you?” she asked just as harshly back. I couldn’t speak for a second.
“Alexandra.” She scoffed at my name.
“And just what do tu think you’re doing here?” she asked in a nasty tone.
“Honestly. I don’t know.” She laughed once, mockingly.
“Obviously. With that stupid face on you, I should of known that.” she dicho and stood up, brushing off the dirt on her clothes.
Obviously she wasn’t afraid to make fun of someone.
“Wow. A real welcome wagon here.” I mumbled. She glared at me. I tried to look menacing back but obviously it didn’t work. “So who are you?” I tried to put as much venom in my words as possible.
“Why should I tell you?”
“Well, why are tu even here?”
“I’m just looking for people, whom tu don’t know, so why don’t tu just run along now little girl.” she dicho while waving a hand like tu would with a little kid, to go away. I could start to feel the blood boil in my veins.
“I’m NOT a little girl! And I might. If it’s your wacko friends in the tent!” I shouted angrily. She ignored me and started walking towards the front of the tent. Tristan, Logan, and Lea were in the entrance, staring at us with worried looks.
“THERE tu three are.” dicho the annoying girl, relieved. She ran up and gave Logan a hug.
Lea started to fume.
Logan chuckled and patted the girl on her head and gently released her arms from his waist.
“Nice to see tu to Melony.” he dicho politely and messed up her hair.
“What are tu doing here?” asked Lea impatiently.
And I thought Melony only annoyed me.
But what the funny part was, she was half his age AND size. But I knew immediately that Melony had a thing for him. I looked at Lea’s face. Her eyes were filled with sadness.
I suddenly felt sorry for her.
“Who’s she?” Melony’s nails on a chalk-board voice pulled my eyes away from Lea to her. Everyone stared at me.
I could feel the blood rush to my face.
“Um, hi?” I asked nervously. I was mostly embarrassed of Tristan’s eyes staring confusingly at me. He was so, intriguing. Logan’s smirk never left his face as he looked at me.
“Hello again.” he dicho in his husky voice, with a chuckle. Lea was staring at me blankly, más concerned with Melony. An awkward silence filled the air. I wrapped my arms around myself, embarrassed.
“Heeellooo...” Melony sung, annoyed. “Who the hell is she?” she asked again, pointing at me.
Lea spoke first.
“This is Alex. She’s an outsider. She doesn’t know where she is. And we have no idea what to do with her. End of story.” she dicho and angrily pushed her way into the tent. Logan followed. Melony eyed me up and down again, but followed after Logan. It was only Tristan and me, staring at each other. He leaned against his sword belt, and smiled slightly.
I stared uneasily at him.
“What?” I couldn’t help but giggle a bit as I dicho it. He didn’t say anything, just smiled a bit. “Tristan?” I breathed, curious. He finally opened his mouth.
“Nothing. Just thinking.” he shrugged, and reached towards the flap of the tent, but stared at me one más time before disappearing into the tent. It took me a few moments to realize that the temperature was dropping immensely. I shivered once, and sighed, I could see my breath clearly now. My arms wrapped around myself tighter, trying to block out the cold. But the wind whipped around my hair and I coughed. I slowly tried to walk towards a árbol near the campsite. A dry patch of dirt was visible near the el maletero, tronco of the tree. I fell painfully down on the ground and pulled my knees up to my chest, and leaned my cheek against the cold surface of my jeans.
“I want to go home.” I breathed and shivered. I could feel my lips go numb. But I closed my eyes and felt myself slowly lolling off to sleep.
The wind through my hair,
The césped, hierba beneath my feet,
And the never ending run of my life
It doesn't matter where I go,
I'm going to the end of the world and back,
The indescribable feeling of running as fast as tu can,
To touch the stars,
Brushing my hand against the black night sky like water,
This dream is the perfect escape,
Escape from life itself,
This never ending field of dreams,
Is an indescribable feeling of freedom,
Joy, Hope, and
Love...
