Yes, Michael could've died that day. He was going to WTC for business meetings, but he had stayed up until late that night, and overslept. That saved his life.

His 30th Anniversary Concerts in NY took place the days before 9/11, so many of his fans were there as well, and there were rumors that Michael had been killed in the attack, so they were all very worried about him. When they found him, he was just as worried about them! He left some of his people behind to take care of them, he booked, and paid, for their hotel rooms and flights back, he even let some of them stay in his hotel suite, because he had paid for it, but didn't need it anymore. Typical MJ!!! So nice and caring!!! <3

Yes, Jermaine dicho in his book that Michael should have been there that day, but Katherine kept him awake until 4 in the morning and he slept so he missed the appointments that he had.
