^Ya he did, but when they actually got together it seemed like Brooke was doing all the work and Lucas just tuned out after a while... atleast thats how I always felt.

I almost want to say neither. I have a really hard time picking one, over the other. Because IMO, I don't really feel like either of them deserve to be picked. Yes, Lucas fought for her at times. And yes, Brooke was "holding on for dear life". But I feel like both of those things were always being contradicted, by their actions. They both could have stepped up, and done MUCH more to contribute to, help, or even save their relationship.

Lucas could have actually taken the time to listen to Brooke's concerns, and do something about them. He told her he loved her over and over, and gave her speeches. And that's great. But he wasn't doing a single thing to actually make her feel more secure about their relationship, regarding BLP. Hanging out with Peyton 24/7 (even when specifically asked not to), and constantly making Brooke feel second best to her isn't exactly a top effort to strengthen BL, or be a good boyfriend to Brooke. He could have taken the time to call her while he was away. Whether she was "on his mind", or not, she didn't know that. And that extra little effort to actually SHOW Brooke that she was on his mind could have gone a long way. And Lucas passed up several of those type of opportunities while they were together.

And Brooke really should have stepped up, and let go of all of her paranoia crap. Lucas really hadn't done anything since S1 for her to be acting like such a high maintenance drama queen. I feel like the whole "we're trusting each other" theme in 3x10 was all crap, because she never ACTUALLY learned to trust him. I feel like poor Lucas just couldn't catch a break, no matter what he did. And then there's the topic of Brooke not being willing to fight for him. And yet people get all defensive, and offended by the "I'm not the guy for you" statement. Can you blame him for saying that? Heaven forbid, he wants to be with someone who is willing to fight for him, in return. He didn't do anything even half-worthy of being told that she wasn't going to fight for him. It's like Brooke just had this pride issue, and was too stubborn to let the past be the past, and fight for anything less than 100% perfection. Brooke's no picnic, but Lucas was still willing to fight for her. And he deserves the same in return. Especially if she really loved him as much as she, and fans say that she did.

It's just a never-ending circle with these two. Lucas didn't technically do anything wrong. But at the same time, he wasn't really doing all that he could, and could have made MUCH more of an effort, considering how sensitive Brooke was, and her requests regarding BLP. And Brooke, had every right to be insecure, considering that Lucas wasn't really putting her feelings first. But yet, I don't think she had a reason to be QUITE as high maintenance as she was. The two of them could never just find that happy-medium between them.
