"SENSE AND SENSIBILITY" (1981) Review

Jane Austen's 1811 novel, "Sense and Sensibility" has been a favorito! with her modern-day fans. The novel has produced at least three televisión and two movie adaptations and a literary parody. However, this review is about the seven-part, 1981 BBC adaptation.

Directed por Rodney Bennett and adapted por Alexander Baron and Denis Constanduros, "SENSE AND SENSIBILITY" starred Irene Richards and Tracey Childs as the two main protagonists - sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The story focused on the sisters' attempts to find happiness in the tightly structured...

"PERSUASION" (1995) Review

Twenty-four years after the BBC aired its 1971 version of Jane Austen’s 1818 novel, ”Persuasion”; and twelve years before ITV aired its adaptation; Columbia Pictures released its own version on British televisión and in movie theaters across the U.S. The movie went on to become highly acclaimed, the winner of a BAFTA TV award for Best Single Drama, and regarded as the definitive version of Austen’s novel.

Directed por Roger Michell, ”PERSUASION” told the story of Anne Elliot, the middle daughter of an impoverished baronet in Regency England. Seven o eight...

Man considers himself the creator of all, even god for that matter! He thinks of himself as the master of his destiny, the controller of all events and the ultimate doer!

All of this is completely true! But one thing goes missing in this theory. It is the fact that man, to do everything that he does, has to fall upon something for motivation and inspiration.

Different strokes for different folks may be the case here, but one stroke that stands common is movies. Accept it o deny it, cine play a very important role in motivating a man. Not only do they motivate us, they also assist us in developing...

"NORTHANGER ABBEY" (1986) Review

Most movie and televisión adaptations of Jane Austen’s novels are either highly acclaimed o perhaps even liked por fans and critics alike. I can only think of two o three adaptations that have been dismissed them. And one of them happened to be the 1986 A&E Network/BBC adaptation of Austen’s 1817 novel, "Northanger Abbey".

Adapted por Maggie Wadey, "NORTHANGER ABBEY" follows the experiences of seventeen-year-old gótico novel aficionado, Catherine Morland, who is invited por her parents’ friends, Mr. and Mrs. Allen, to accompany them on a visit to Bath,...

"MANSFIELD PARK" (1983) Review

Long before Patricia Rozema wrote and directed her 1999 adaptation of "Mansfield Park", Jane Austen’s 1814 novel, the BBC aired its own adaptation some sixteen years earlier. This one came in the form of a six-part miniseries and is regarded por many Austen fans as the definitive screen version of the novel.

"MANSFIELD PARK" told the story of Fanny Price, the oldest daughter of a former Royal Navy officer, who is sent por her parents to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle-in-law, Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram, at their estate called Mansfield Park, during the early...

"PERSUASION" (1971) Review

This adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1818 novel turned out to be the first of the old Jane Austen televisión adaptations that the BBC aired during the 1970s and 80s. Produced and directed por Howard Baker, and adapted por Julian Mitchell; this two-part miniseries starred Ann Firbanks and Bryan Marshall.

As many fans of Austen’s novel would know, ”PERSUASION” told the story of Anne Elliot, the middle daughter of a vain and spendthrift baronet, who finds herself reunited with her former finance, a Naval officer of lesser birth named Frederick Wentworth. Eight years...

SOCIAL CLASS AND THE BENNET FAMILY IN "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE"

Considering how long I have been a fan of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel, "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE" and its numerous televisión and movie adaptations, I am surprised that I have never considered something about its heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, and her family. Ever since I have been lectura numerous artículos about the novel and its adaptations, I have noticed that many have labeled the Bennet family as members of the middle-class o the upper middle-class in Regency England. And it finally occurred to me that many of these fans were in error....
