It's hard to say...but right NOW, I'd say that they're very, very close friends who are getting deeper in their relationship. The physical attraction and whatnot will come later. ;-)

This is one of the many reasons why I love Ichigo and Rukia as a couple...it's an unromantic romance. It isn't roses and sparkles and daydreams and cute little blushes; it's joys, regrets, laughter, pain, quarrels, promises. It's strength filling weakness, brokenness being healed, two wills connecting to be forged ever stronger. It's firm and solid as a mountain. It's Real.

IchiRuki are made for each-other they born for each-other and,I luv to see them together they are my favorite from the every 1st season.

O.o Wow Steph, you sure do get into it there. Yes...that's great, but I don't always want to think that hard about a pairing. I'm good with either Ichiruki of Ichihime.

There are never been any hint or evidence in the manga that clearly proves that they're physically attracted to each other.. The notion of sex and everything related to it are willfully laid aside by Kubo (Matsumoto is a special case) and I do think that Ichigo is more... turned on by the sex-appeal of Yoruichi, Matsumoto or Nel. That doesn't mean he finds Rukia unattractive. Not at all. But I don't find anything in the way they look at each other/talk to each other, that makes me think they are physically attracted to each other.
& I think it's intentional. Kubo deliberately wants to make us feel like that, because their bond is deeper than the simple attraction.

I agree with xleeloo. Most of those points are absolutely true.
And what's surprising is the fact that most of the people who picked "I don't think they are" were right on their guessing that it would come in the future. Because as of December 2012, that moment and that proof indeed came right from the manga!
We had Ichigo blushing because of watching Rukia's butt! It's him blushing like he did with Yoruichi or Matsumoto (which proves that Rukia is sexually attractive to him), not counting the perv comment (obviously Kubo intended something) made by the guy standing next to him:)
About Rukia, I'm not sure, though she indeed seemed to have a crush on him in that episode Stinkyuu mentions. But I'm an Ichigo fangirl so I'm totally biased about his looks, especially during and after the Fullbring arc where Riruka and Orihime almost had a nosebleed because of his hotness!
