She felt his absence in every breath she took, in every mover she made, in every beat of her heart. Yet she could see him there in every elevator and corridor, just a fleeting glimpse before he dissapeared into the crowd.
********
Tick
Tick
Tick
The constant ticking of the clock bolted to the solid white muro tormented him, tortured him. With every rhythmic tick he was reminded of those final hours, the bewilderment and concern housed in her beautiful grey eyes. Every tick resurfaced the carefully repressed memories stored in his ailing mind. He yearned for the half segundo between each tick where he could exist without axiety, without dwelling on what made him the most anxious.
**********
The distinct sound of his signature limp resonated in the empty halls of her house, of her hospital, of her heart. She still saw his back, still saw the hurt in his eyes as he turned around for a last look at his life as they both had come to know. She saw him everywhere. Was she the one going insane?
*******
She will never know how he felt. She would never feel the same way. Unexpected anger forked through his body, taking over his mind, his already fragmented heart.
She can never see,to her, he knew he was just an employee, nothing more.
A first rate pain in the ass. If she could only know the rock-solid muro of sarcasm and deflection was only that, a wall, put in place to mask his true feelings.
*********
A single teardrop landed with a light splash on the legendary desktop that had witnessed every futile negotiation and tense, beautiful flirtation since medical school
He can never see,to him, she knew she was just an strong-willed boss, nothing more.
*********
He turned away, squeezed his eyes shut. But the image remained, burned into his eyelids forever. How could she see him as so fragile and needy?
There was no escaping the notion that no matter how hard he fought to maintain his wall, his seemingly impenatrable facade, she held the key. She seen him from the same side of the wall.
***********
She couldnt continue functioning, not when he was so many miles away...
*********
He had always harbored a stubborn refusal to accept help from anyone. He had always been completeley focused on self preservation, alaways looking out for number one. Now, for once, for her, he was letting others take control. Yet he felt, he knew, that she didnt see it.

...i miss you.
