Of course they are, even in the book it's explicitly stated they're very similar, it's just the subtle differences that make, for lack of a better word, the difference :)

Yeah, i agree with benji. Dumbledore told Harry in the books how similar they are, but Harry just happened to decide to follow the path of good and not the path that Voldemort chose.

I agree with the above two, while Harry is good and Voldemort is evil, they share a lot of powers and in the 5th book they even had a strong enough connection that Harry could share Voldemort's feelings. I don't think you can really argue against it.

Black, white, and gray. Harry's varying shades of gray while Voldemort is pure black.

I think its pretty extraordinary that they both grew up in a place they hated and Harry was still able to become so close with Ron and Hermione and love so many people.
And Voldemort was the same and he turned out to be the most evil wizard of all time.
They both had no parents, they're half-bloods, they hated their lives before Hogwarts. And they turned out to be so different.
It shows that they are completely opposite.

in the books it shows similaities but
sometime you compare things by their differenes and not their similarities
and they have many different views on how to be a good wizard
but in the end you know they are somewhat alike

they are very similar with powers, and they shared the same thoughts sometimes... but different because Harry really is good where Voldemort is evil.

they both had rough childhoods, they both are powerful, they could both talk to snakes, ect, but they chose very different destinies: gryffindor and slytherin, hero and villian, good and evil...

That's the point. They're alike in many ways but they choose separate paths and that's what makes them good and evil.

Yeah, it's true!
They are alike because of the powers Voldermort transeferred in Harry by using the Kill Spell, but it's its choice who made them different

They have some similarities but more differences I think, or the differences are more important. Some of the similarities are also just an effect on Harry having been an accidental Horcrux.
