Bella's weak character is due to... Bella's weak character. Also, I think she didn't have a strong enough father figure in her life, that's why she ran to sissy Edward. But that's just me.

Bella's character was never a strong one. Meyer only wishes tu to think she was strong in the first place. It is a simply thing of what is told and what is shown. Constantly the reader is told about how strong Bella is, but every time it comes to mostrar her strenghts, she comes across as weak and/or a major complainer about having to do things for others.
