Yes, there are 5 already written. so for sure they will air (as long as the show keeps doing well) and follow the actual storyline of the books. Now most likely the 6th book will be written before the show gets that far but what i'm really worried about is the final book. There's almost no way it's going to be done in time and then what happens to the show? do they go on hiatus for 4 years until it is? or do they just make up the ending to the story and damn the written material. neither scenario is appealing to me so i really don't know what's going to happen. =(
Yeah I'd hate it if they had to write an ending to the show that was different to the one that should be in the books.
My major concern though is that GRRM never finishes the books which would mean never knowing how the story ends or having it written by a ghost writer.
@D_J267, yeah, that scenario would be the worst yet, that we never get an ending at all. I originally thought that since GRRM had a contract with HBO that he would be forced to write his books within a tighter deadline but apparantly that isn't the case.
Not yet, I mean, there are like 3 more seasons to go before the show catches up with the books, and that's some 3 more years. By that time the sixth book will come out and as for the seventh. Well... If Martin DIES before he finishes this bloody series because he's not willing to write one story exclusively... Well, he can go fuck himself with all swords of that Iron Throne. I mean, he's not that young and if we never learn the ending... that'd be really... bad.
The main thing that's concerning me is how long it takes GRRM to write the books. And if the latest book is anything to go by, he's taking the story too slow. They should definitely give him a deadline.
