Cameras keep on rolling in Zumaia this week, while back in Northern Ireland the new
set sees action with another filming unit.
s ‘eye in the sky’ captured a few images of the newest N.I. shooting site in the Mournes for season 7, which fans first learned of a few days’ ago. The false-snowed fields are found in the area of Kinnahalla Rd., outside Hilltown, according to
And while the location was still under construction on Monday, today the Mournes set is fully alive with actors on horseback and cameras.
We can’t ascertain the identity of the actors at the location; unfortunately the photos are just too distant. So what do we have here?
Clearly this is the wintry North of Westeros. Who is doing a bit of traveling? We know Bran is on the move, he can’t live at that weirwood tree beyond the Wall. Does this scene involve him and the Night’s Watch? Or should we look further south to Sansa and Littlefinger, and the folks stationed at Winterfell?
Update: Goya Photography captured more images of the new location. Here are a few closer shots of the field and the small snow-covered building on the site:
Elsewhere in Northern Ireland, another performer has returned to work on the new season. This morning English actress Annette Hannah, who played the little bird Frances in season 6, arrived in Belfast. A WotW reader spotted her in the airport and shared a photo with us:
So we have one of Qyburn’s birds back for season 7, and filming taking place soon, no doubt. Keep a lookout for Anton Lesser from this point on. What will the murderous little birds be up to in season 7?

Could the northern pictures be Bran and Meera being escorted to Castle Black or Winterfell by the NW? Or perhaps white walkers attacking the NW? So many possibilities!
I wonder if the little birds will be loyal to Qyburn or they’ll be loyal to Varys since I’ve never known him to use them to kill people just listen and deliver messages.
My money is on the Watch escorting Bran and Meera to Winterfell or possibly the Brotherhood Without Banners heading north (if they’ve picked up a few more men). The fence being there doesn’t technically lend itself to this being something beyond the Wall, though it could be the area around Craster’s place.
I’ve zoomed in as much as I can and I counted 6-7 mounted riders. The rider in front appears to be wearing a reddish/brown cloak. Could it be Thoros and the gang arriving at Winterfell? At first I assumed Bran, but does the Night’s Watch have 4-5 men to spare to escort him home? I’m dying to know who these people are, hopefully some pap can get clearer pics.
Annette Hannah’s character is officially named “Frances” in the credits.
….I wonder if she’s the TV version of Penny. You don’t just randomly cast a dwarf actor in such a role.
On top of this I wonder if it ties into the tinfoil hat “what if Penny is Tyrion’s long lost daughter with Tysha that he never knew about?” theory (which has no real evidence other than that she’s a younger female dwarf and people suspect that Martin would make a Greek tragedy of Tyrion’s own daughter unwittingly falling in love with him).
Of course, Annette is 10 years old and any daughter with Tysha that Tyrion unknowingly sired would have to be around 20 but….maybe as a dwarf she’s supposed to look younger than she actually is?
Maybe it is the brotherhood heading north toward Winterfell. I remember they said something to the Hound in S6 about cold winds rising in the north and them needing to be ready.
Hm, about a half dozen riders arriving at some homestead (the house/yard is also dressed in fake snow).
In the first picture the first rider seems kind of hunched and there are two people around the head of his horse. This made me think of Bran.
The house reminds me of the farm in the Gift that Tormund & co. raided but Jon “accidentally” struck a stone with his sword and alerted the old man who was able to escape, for a while. I’m not saying that it’s the same place but that scene sprung to my mind when I saw the longish one-story house.
Yeah I wonder if it’s the Brotherhood too. Seems like a good possibility.

The Brotherhood was my initial thought also; the snow at Winterfell in 610 was starting to really come down, and it would make sense for there to be more snow to the south of the castle, in the direction of the Neck. I am hopeful we will get some scenes with Sandor and the Brotherhood on their travels – even if they don’t encounter Arya, Melisandre, Brienne or Pod, all of whom Sandor has history with, and all of whom were in or around the Riverlands/heading south from Winterfell when last seen in season six.
I doubt that Edd could spare more than one or two men to escort Bran and Meera south; we don’t even know if Bran admits to being a Stark to Edd (he may want to try and hide his identity as he tried and failed to do when they encountered Sam at the Nightfort in 310) in which case, why would Edd offer him an escort?
Intrigued by the return of one of the birds and also a little nervous about what they might get up to. The role they played in the Sept of Baelor plot and the murder of Pycelle in 610 has me worried about what Qyburn could have these kids doing. Trying to identify those in KL that oppose Cersei’s seizure of power? After all, Team Cersei is down to her, Qyburn, Frankenmountain, the little birds and maybe Jaime (plus, I guess, Bronn) – she killed off the rest of the KL cast in 610.
That means they are filming 3 storylines right now. Outside in Spain, inside in Kingslanding and somewhere outside cold with snow.
I think your first guess is the most likely. It does look like they are dressed in black, though of course that could be anyone in the North. But I think it may be Edd and a few Night’s Watch men accompanying Bran and Meera to Winterfell, yeah. Exciting!
EDIT. Hm, hadn’t thought about the Brotherhood. Now that I think about it, that’s quite likely!
Seems like the Brotherhood or the remainder of the NW preparing to fight WW or travelling somewhere.
I believe they are double agents!!(i really want them to be) And they always belonged to Varys.
In the first two photos, do you guys also see a person with green clothes who looks to be a lot taller than his companions or i am just imagining things? The hound?
If the stone building in the updated pictures is to be used in the show, I would guess that it is maybe meant to be some sort of holdfast in either the North or the Riverlands that travelling characters stay in overnight? Or maybe to wait out a snow storm?
IMO, the travelers arriving to some homestead or inn should be either the Brotherhood or maybe Edmure Tully with his family (another group that is sort of primed to set on the move). It might be both too, and the homestead (or inn) might be the place where they run into each other.
It looks very similar to the old horse breeders house. It would have to be the BwB or NW escorting Bran.
It’s not the same building they used for the raid in S3 (see my post above) because there are trees/bushes growing in front of this building. Anyway, it was just a passing thought because of the shape of the building (one story, long) and the fact that this is probably somewhere quite north because of the snow.
If it’s Bran, Meera & escort, it could be in the Gift, if it’s the Brotherhood, it could be somewhere in the North south of Winterfell.
Yeah, there seems to be someone wearing green. Not sure about his height, difficult to tell from these pictures. At first I thought it could just be a crew member holding the horse between takes, but it could well be Sandor or some other Brotherhood guy.
It’d be so much easier to speculate if we got sightings of actors from the area, lol! Anyway, whoever was there, they’re already back in Belfast.
I too noticed the person in green but assumed it was a crew member holding the actor’s horse. But now that others have mentioned it, it could be Sandor. If Rory is spotted in Belfast today or tomorrow perhaps we’ll have our answer whether it’s the Brotherhood or Bran.
It’s very exciting to see pictures of filming coming out of Northern Ireland after so many from Spain. I agree it is probably the Hound & BwB or the NW, Bran & Meera. I can’t think of anyone else that would be filming that far North at this time. Hopefully clearer pics will be released so we can see who the actors are!
Building looks alot like the roadhouse where they left Hotpie!
I counted 8-9 people on horses and a big ass fan I guess for blowing snow. I zoomed it up on my 55 inch HDTV.
Please don’t let that be Craster’s Other Keep, please don’t let that be Craster’s Other Keep… (☉｡☉)
Hot Pie was left at the Inn at the Crossroads in the Riverlands, a multi-storey big building surrounded by big trees.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Hot Pie again, though. Maybe he could end up the cook in WF, after all is said and done! 🙂
The Inn at the Crossroads was the first thing I thought of too, but alas the building and foliage don’t match up. But I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it and Hot Pie did show up this season, and early.
That’s an interesting possibility too, if the hypothesis is true that Arya will free her uncle before leaving the Twins. No reason to assume that a snowy setting is the North, now that winter has come.
Maisie is in Belfast at the moment so she is presumably filming something.
Could this maybe be the farm where Theon found the Miller’s boys?
I can’t wait to hear something about Arya!!!
