Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Brienne of Tarth: The Hero We've Been Waiting For
After five seasons of torture and abuse, Sansa finally finds her savior.
was the best opener since the series\' very first episode. With so many of the main characters in places of abject danger, the show didn\'t waste time upping the ante while pushing every storyline forward. You may only remember Melisandre\'s Darth Vader moment, as she\'s revealed to be a crusty old white lady, but there was one sequence that ruled above all, this one:
Theon and Sansa, having made their jump from the Winterfell wall without a scratch (somehow) are first shown bolting through the woods with Ramsay\'s best men and hounds on their tail. (Why Ramsay wasn\'t eager to chase these two himself is a mystery.) The two have no chance. Sansa tells Theon she\'ll never make it in the cold and they\'re soon huddled together next to an uprooted tree with the Bolton killers approaching. Theon tries to beg them away but they find Sansa and appear set for a vicious reckoning at the hands of Ramsay.
It\'s then Brienne charges the Boltons out of nowhere with Podrick close behind. Grunting and screaming like Steffi Graf at Wimbledon, Brienne cuts her way through three men (Pod and Theon handle the other two) and pledges herself to Sansa once again. This time the young girl wisely accepts.
Finally, our "Little Dove" (as Cersei once called her) appears safe. The tribulations of Sansa have their roots way back in the second episode of the entire series, when her direwolf, Lady, is killed by her father to placate the Lannisters. What she has endured over the course of the series is downright biblical, with her rape at the hands of Ramsay last season the final straw. Sansa was ready to escape or die trying.
That\'s what makes her rescue such an important moment. It\'s years in the making. We\'ve watched her endure Joffrey\'s abuse, Littlefinger\'s influence, Lysa\'s intimidation, and Ramsay\'s twisted malice. It\'s about time the eldest Stark caught a break. With Brienne by her side, Sansa finally has someone she can really trust behind her. Throw in Theon and Podrick (perhaps a new love interest?), and the future is finally bright for the auburn-haired beauty from Winterfell.
As for Brienne, her star only grows brighter. She\'s one of the few characters on the show with true honor. In a world supposedly built on that notion, it\'s refreshing there\'s still one character we can count on to adhere to those kinds of ideals. Like Sansa, Brienne has seen her share of abuse throughout life, but it\'s made her stronger. Look for Sansa\'s journey to follow a similar trajectory. Now free of Ramsay and everyone else, she\'s primed to become a major character of power on the show.
