With all the discussion surrounding the Faith this year on
, there is one notable new casting for the storyline fans have been wondering about and
can now confirm that the role has been filled with British actress Hannah Waddingham.
HBO has officially confirmed to us that Waddingham will be playing Septa Unella, described as “a septa serving the Faith of the Seven. As a member of the Most Devout, the highest ranking clergy, she enforces strict adherence to her religion’s laws.”
and has several roles on British TV to her credit. She is well known for her roles in musical theatre, starring in
A Little Night Music, Into the Woods, The Wizard of Oz
and playing the Lady of the Lake in the original London production of
It’s fantastic to finally know who’s playing the harsh septa. I can’t wait to see what she does with her. There’s a lot of potential in the part.

That’s not her in that pic with Jonathan Pryce. It’s one of the other septas. We’ll cover that in the post we have coming up next. We’ll get that posted in a little bit. Just needed to get this news out there.
Yeah, nice to get some confirmation of this role. Still want some more though….

I had to look her up, I couldn’t remember her offhand. Per AWOIAF she has ” a scowling homely face” in the books. This woman is quite pretty. Will a character this minor receive the same complaints that some had about Tyrion, Jorah, Ygritte, etc? Let’s find out.

If there are other Septas, maybe one of them wont be pretty. Anyway, this is TV. This happens in TV and it will continue to happen. GOT is no exception.
I know. It’s not a problem for me in the least (neither are Tyrion, Jorah, Ygritte, etc). But it might be a problem for a handful of others, and if it is, I’ll laugh.
If you had to look her up in the wiki to get a description, I don’t her book description really matters.
Anyway, when I got the casting call leak earlier this year, it said that Unella “appears a lot” so I assume they’ll stick with her
I don’t think her book description matters at all; I was looking her up to remember what it was she does in the story. But then I read that, and thought it was funny because there are probably a few people that
to put it another way, that was an attempt at some end-of-the-workday snark that failed. Fortunately it’s time to go home!
I heard they were looking to get a “hulking” sort of woman for the job but I guess they decided against it.

This is one of those recurrent but relatively minor roles I always enjoy a lot in Game of Thrones. In this case, I imagine we’ll see her a lot, considering what Sue has said. Great find!
She’s pretty tall and could easily be made to look hulky.
