Disney\'s Snow Queen juggernaut passes three million sales and could topple Avatar as best-selling video release of the decade

Disney\'s Frozen has become the first film of 2014 to pass three million DVD and Blu-ray sales, and is on course to become the biggest-selling video release of the decade.

Avatar and Skyfall are the only other films to have sold more than three million copies since the start of 2010, and after selling 160,000 copies last week, Frozen has overtaken Skyfall to claim second place.

Released on March 31, the film sold 899,000 in its opening week and topped the Official Video Chart for four weeks, and the recent release of a new sing-along version has further boosted sales.

Figures from the Official Chart Company show that Frozen has become one of the top 20 DVD and Blu-ray titles of all time, sitting at number 15. If it sells more copies than Avatar, it will enter the all-time Top 10: the biggest-seller of all time is Mamma Mia – The Movie, which has sold 6.5million copies.

The Frozen soundtrack is the second biggest-selling album of 2014, while its lead song, Let It Go has sold more than 779,000 copies including downloads and is number 8 in the year\'s top 10 singles.

The film, which won the Oscar for best song, has grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office to become the biggest animated film of all time.

A new short film featuring the same characters, Frozen Fever, will be shown at cinema screening\'s of Disney\'s live-action film of Cinderella which opens on March 27 2015.

Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, told the Telegraph that a full-length Frozen sequel had been confirmed, and that she hoped to return to the cast.
