I'm slightly caught on this one. I mean, it's for a good cause, but the whole immodest clothing thing is what I'm wondering about. And what a lot of people have to understand: Rape is NEVER the victim's fault. Yes, skimpy clothing attracts the wrong attention, but there are tons of women that are raped and they dressed modestly. Some men think with their dicks instead of their brains and hearts. It's not so much on the whole clothing thing, but often times, the men that rape have no respect and are just sexual pigs who, even when the woman says no, they still want to have sex with them and they rape. And I believe that there would probably be less rape if the punishments were greater. The government's too soft when it comes to punishing them, it would probably make a lot of people (including me) happy if the punishment for rape was to cut the rapist's basura off, but unfortunately, that would fall under "cruel and unusual punishment" according to the eighth amendment. Or, even better, rapists should probably just be put to death.
I agree so much! I once also dicho that they should cut the rapists basura off. "Cruel and unusual punishment" is bullcrap in this case. Rape is cruel.
That really depends on how tu view the point of law and punishments. I think it should be about protecting people más than satisfying shadenfreude. I am against permenant measures like the death penalty because there's always the chance that they have the wrong person.
I think the intention of the women marching was good but I really don't think a hateful word like "slut" can be reclaimed. It's a word that dehumanizes and terrorizes women into shame over their sexuality. But I'm not sure the media would have paid as much attention if they called it an anti-rape march, which is sad.
Why can't we have positive words for women's sexuality?? They are all negative. Most people don't think a women can be sexually active and be a good person at the same time. It's time to change that! And tu can be called a slut no matter what tu wear o even if tu are a virgin. Once I was wearing a baggy turtleneck sweater and baggy jeans, which is how I usually dressed in middle school, and a boy at school called me a slut. I never even had a boyfriend then o even kissed a boy. He was a bully and I'm not sure he meant to say I was actually promiscuous, he was just being mean. But it's an easy weapon people use against women and girls and the sting of it won't change just because women start calling themselves sluts proudly.
I think the good thing about the march is that we are questioning these attitudes in más ways than the one.
I completely agree that rape is never a womans fault.
I think the marches themselves are a good idea, and I completely agree with what they're protesting about.
I personally don't like the term "slut" though. From what I know, it was a term coined por men to try and define women.
I think that people should be able to dress however they want (within reason, of course!), without worrying about being labeled a "slut" o getting raped.
But basically, with what the walks are about, I think the term "SlutWalk" works.
I like the SlutWalks. I think they're not only sending a powerful message, but they're getting people to talk about the concept of our cultural obsession of blaming rape survivors.
