Case in point: Aladdin. The first sequel, The Return of Jafar is execrable, really a bomb in every way. There's no point watching it at all, since nothing happens and there is no character development. You miss nothing by skipping it completely, except that Iago (the parrot voiced by Gilbert Gottfried) becomes a good guy.

But the third film, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, is actually pretty well done. If it hadn't been made for direct-to-video, it could really have a shot at being as good in its way as the original. As it is, the animation can't touch the work of the theatrical division, but still...pretty good.

Every once in a while, you find a gem.

Most of them are awful, but then you get Toy Story 2 which rocked!

Actually, I did see Aladdin II and Toy Story II. But still, the classic-classics, like the Little Mermaid, Cinderella etc.? Wouldn't watch the sequel.

I didnt like the Cinderella sequels but other than that they were ok

Lion King 2 is surprisingly good, as I recall. Maybe it just caught me on a vulnerable day, but I thought it was pretty sweet.

An example is Toy Story 2, although I do not know if that counts, as it is Pixar.

Especially loved Bambi 2, so cute.

there are a few good sequels, but thats all they ever are...good. you can't beat a classic, but i guess its good to try.

I watched cinderella III once which I didn't really mind, it's good for the new kids haha ... and Toy Story II which I didn't really like...

I think most are ok, some good, few bad.. I don't know why everyone hates them, sure usually the 1st is better, and that's with everything, but that doesn't mean that the movie is bad.

I was going to chose "Yes, but they dissapointed me", but then I remembered Aladdin. That was an amazing movie with great sequels. And Pirates of the Caribbean was good too. But The Little Mermaid 2? WTF???

The only reason I watch some sequels is because I want to know what will happen next. I seen HBOND2 and that was great, I saw Little Mermaid 2 and that was good , I have Pocahuntas 2 as well as the first one and that was good too. Hey I love Disney (well the classic ones anyway) the 3D ones are rubbish and some of the live action ones are alright but my fav live action ones are Enchanted and the 1st two PD movies.

Contrary to what I said on an earlier article... I like The Lion King 2 a lot, and think it was impressive (I just re-watched it today). Still, ones like Cinderella II or Pocahontas IIor The Return of Jafar...uh.

I don't like Pocahontas 2 a lot!!! How dare Disney gave her to John Rolfe after all the hot pictures in the original Pocahontas!!! :(

I watched Little Mermaid 2 and The Lion King 1 and a half......and hated them both with a passion. They shouldn't make sequels to any of the Disney movies; it ruins the stories.

Sequels which suck to me:
Pocahontas 2(seriously, big time. It's always at the top of my list)
Aladdin 2(though I loved the 3rd movie)
Cinderella 2. Cinderella 3 was good, but just a rehash of the original.
The little mermaid 2 was also dull, though I loved Melody(Ariel's daughter). But the 3rd film sucked too.
The fox and the hound 2. Gosh, I loved the original! It was so touching! Then the sequel came and ruined it.
I didn't like Mulan 2 either, except for the wedding part and Shang's(false)death.

The Lion King 2 was awesome - but then the others were a bit lame like how in Bambi 2 he's a kid again - and in the beauty and the beast sequels - he's a beast again - doesn't work for me :-/

I disliked the bulk of them, but I loved The Rescuers Down Under (which is one of my favorite MOVIES of all time and BY FAR better than the original), The Lion King 2, Toy Story 2 and 3, and Lady and the Tramp 2.

The Lion King 2, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Lilo & Stitch 2, Stitch!: The Movie, Leroy & Stitch, and An Extremely Goofy Movie are great.

The Little Mermaid 2, Lady and the Tramp 2, Bambi 2, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2, Mulan 2, and Aladdin and the King of Thieves are good.

The Pixar Sequels and Disney Animation Studios Sequels are all good and sometimes even better than the previous movie (haven't seen Cars 2 yet). The Direct-to-video sequels are all an insult to the original. There are one or two which at least had some potential, but a good idea doesn't necessarily make a good movie. The only between this bunch which is worth to watch more than once is Aladdin 3.

The Lion King II is the best Disney sequel awesome story, music, characters and almost everything. The only way it doesn't compare with the original is in animation, but other than that the Lion King II is definitely the best. I also like Belle's Enchanted Christmas and the Peter Pan sequel was pretty good too.

The Aladdin Trilogy is also good.

Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World Sucked... I just pretend it doesn't exist :D

I've seen the Lion King 2 and 3 (or 1 1/2 as it's called in some countries!), Lady and the Tramp 2, and 101 Dalmatians 2. If I enjoyed the original, I will sometimes give the sequel a chance. It's not something I have a habit of doing though - there are still tons of originals I've not yet seen!

So far, I've not seen a sequel to a Disney Classic that I have liked more than its prequel, however there are some sequels that I like more than other Disney originals. For example, I really like The Lion King 2. I like it more than I like Hercules or Sleeping Beauty, but I don't like it more than I like the original Lion King. To put it simply, I don't agree with the assumption that all originals are good and all sequels are bad.

Also, a sequel has never "ruined the original" for me, but I don't think I have the mindset for that to happen. Sequels don't alter the originals in any shape or form, so I don't let them alter my opinions on them. Even when I enjoy a sequel, I don't always necessarily think about it when I'm watching the original. Sequels are just... there... and if you want to consider them when watching the original that's your choice - no one's forcing you. So don't force yourself to think about them if you really don't want to. ;)
