disney Article: Not Just For Kids

Recently, a girl told me one of my favorito! movies, How To Train Your Dragon, which is a DreamWorks movie, was childish. She told me that animación is childish, and for little kids. I told her she was wrong. Dead wrong. It doesn't matter if it's disney o DreamWorks, it's how much tu amor that movie. It matters that the story means something to you. I told her the following:
Is Toy Story 3 a childish movie? How many kids actually saw it? There were más teenagers that saw Toy Story 3 than children. Toy Story is the same type of movie as How To Train Your Dragon. Animation. animación isn't just for children. What if tu told all the people that worked on Toy Story, o any disney movie o any DreamWorks movie that animación was childish? They would be mad at you. You'd have about I'm guessing 6,000 angry people at you.
She responded with "Toy Story isn't childish, it's a classic." I told her:
Every animated movie is a classic. Someone, somewhere will amor that movie even if nobody else does. So get a clue and open your eyes.
She spent most of the time swearing at me as I dicho this, and it resulted in blocking her. I can't stand like people like that, because, to me, they have no heart. animación is something I hold dear, and I'm tired of people calling it childish.
Perhaps I am childish. Maybe this girl is right. I am only just a 16 año old girl. My dream job is to be a computer animator for DreamWorks, but I have a tiny passion for Jessie from Toy Story, despite the company differences. I have two Jessie dolls, and I carry them around all the time in public. I don't care what others say, because animación is my life. If animación didn't exist, quite honestly, I don't know what I would have a passion for, and essentially, I would most likely die, as dramatic as that sounds. I amor animation, and I hate to see it being judged por peers who, in reality, have no idea how much animación is worth in our hearts. So, hopefully, this is a new beginning for animation. A beginning that will forever lie in your heart.

AllegroGiocoso I agree! Anyone who says this at the very least, needs to see five words: The Hunchback of Notre Dame!!! And the others aren't only for kids either, at all! I agree with you 100% :).

kenzieiscool I'll quote Pixar director Brad Bird: "Animation isn't a genre, it's a medium" Animation is a tool tell a story, Instead of using actors, you use animators who draw. I know adult men who cried during Toy Story 3, and trust me, there was WAY more teenagers in the movie theater watching Toy Story 3 then children. When I saw Up and WALL-E in theaters, there was only a handful of children. But there were a lot of adult couples, from 20s to 40s going to watch Up and WALL-E on a date. In fact, I've read a lot of articles discussing how mothers have been COMPLAINING about Toy Story 3, saying it's too depressing and disturbing for children. Too me, an animated film is like any other film. By this, I mean I like it or don't like it depending if there is a good story there. Animation is defintaly not just for children. There are mature movies and shows recommended for 'mature viewers' only, and they're animated. If Disney is just for children, why do adults go to Disneyland, without children? There are SO many jokes in Dreamworks and Pixar movies (as well as other studios) that are understood only by older viewers, jokes that fly right over children's heads. Remember, these movies are made by adults! Finding Nemo/WALL-E director has said, "I don't make a movie for children, I make a movie I'd want to see". In 2001, a category for "Best Animated Feature" was added to the Oscars, because so many animated films are being made, and adult Oscar viewers love them! Why else was Up nominated for Oscar for Best Picture last year? Because adult Academy members loved it enough to nominate it as one of the Best films of 2009.

disneygirl You are so right! I can't stand it when people say animation or cartoons is just for kids or that the person is too old. I used to have a friend who though she was too old for Disney and yet her whole room is decorated in Tinkerbell. When i think of Disney, one of the first things that comes to mind is animation. No one is ever too old for that kind of stuff. I'm a college student and I carry around a Stitch backpack everywhere instead of a pocketbook and I don't care what anyone says or whether I'm too old forit or not. My dad and I spend some nights or weekend watching cartoons together to relax. Whether you're a kid, teenager, or adult, it doesn't matter. Animation is still for everyone no matter what any one person says. Toy Story is undeniably one of the best classics out there - great plot, great characters, first computer animated movie, and overall great animation. But it's still animation and i can't understand how some one could say animation sucks but something like Toy Story is a classic and they love it or anything like that. Anyone who says garbage about animation are the people who don't want an escape from reality, who don't like feeling like little kids again, who don't love watching simple drawings come to life, and especially who don't have hearts. And for the record, How to Train Your Dragon was also AWESOME! xD

Duncan_Courtney That was very well said. I've always had a special place in my heart for cartoon and Disney and stuff like that. When you think about it, kids may watch cartoons, but adults make them, so obviously they must think they're fun and enjoy them. Man I'm 14 and I still watch cartoons on Saturday mornings. Not to mention after seeing Toy Story 3 I went out and bought Buzz Lightyear and Woody dolls and I'm planing on buying another Jessie doll. Personally, I think I'll love animation forever and always be a kid at heart, because innocence is beautiful and a part of me never wants to let my childhood go.

LisaForde LOL I thought I was the only childish adult on this spot.Yeah I agree 100% with ya on that article. I am 19 years old and I also watch re-runs of the same childhood movies that I own on VHS every single summer. My favourite movie is also for kids and I absolutely loved it. My mom thinks its so stupid and I love Enchanted. My motto for being childish is ‘Every single one of us has a kid in us whether your 40 or 30 or even 80,age is just a number’.
