Yes!! In the past few months I watched Pocahontas for the first time in years, and the second that she understood what he was saying and that she could speak English I was like "What?".
I could understand it if she could speak English from the very start, but it was this whole "Listen with your heart" and then she could speak another language that she had never heard before. I wish I could do that. I would pass Chineese class in a flash!

I assumed the "listen with your heart" thing worked.
...I never questioned it, same as I don't question how Maleficent could turn into a dragon or how Ursula can pull voices out of people with magic hands OR HOW A GODDAMN WILLOW TREE TALKS.

It's Hollywood. No matter where the characters are from, in the world, they all magically speak English (or whatever the native language of the audience is). :)

I get how she understands what he's saying, but it doesn't make sense that she can suddenly say "My name is Pocahontas".

If you listen to the song in the background, it says "listen with your heart, you will understand"
She is supposed to be at one with the earth and is using her understanding and empathy to guide her xo

Yes, but I sort of dismissed it as "Listen with your heart...magic".
Same with Tarzan and Jane! He clearly speaks gorilla, so you'd think his name in gorilla-language would be
'Ahhaheeoohhh' or something.
