Kind of stupid if it was her real name, to keep it. Then Rapunzel could DEFINITELY put two and two together.

^ Yeah, I agree. Plus, I doubt Gothel gave two shits about the princess until she saw the hair so she probably didn't know her real name.

Well, the movie doesn't say that her parents named her. And in the original story, Gothel named her after the plant Rapunzel's father stole from her garden.

^^Yeah, I remember that.

I don't think the King and Queen ever got a chance to give her a name. Everyone just refers to her as "the lost princess".

^^Well, why didn't everyone not say "the lost princess _____"? I guess they never got a chance to announce her name or something. Because if she had a name then why did no one refer to her as such? It makes no sense to me...

because the Disney probably thought that would be distracting?

Yeah I agree that Gothel probably named her Rapunzel.

One another note, was Cinderella her actual name or a nickname given by her step family? I remember in one adaption it was a nickname but like in this case, Disney never mentioned it.

^^Well, the nickname was meant in a mean tone, as in "cinders-ella". But in the opening credits the choir sings "Cinderella, you're as lovely as your name..." so I think it was her original name. Also, the narrator says "...in a stately chateau, lived a widowed gentleman and his daughter, Cinderella...he gave the child luxury and comfort, but still thought she needed a mother's care". That sort of says that Cinderella was her name before Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella came along.

^I don't think so, I think he's describing events that happened before the story, not during...just IMO

^^Exactly. If she was Cinderella before the step family came, then she'd be Cinderella during the story. It says she was named Cinderella too, not just called that.

I like the thought that Cinderella's real name was Ella, and her stepmother and stepsisters gave her the name Cinderella to make fun of her being covered in cinders.
