Or Snow White, then Cinderella. This film was the first animated movie ever to be nominated for an Oscar. Big deal. An opinion widely held by critics is that this is the best Disney film ever.

It's about tied with Snow White for me, since Snow White was a pioneer.

I couldnt choose.

Snow White- the first of all.
Cinderella- saved the studio.
The Little Mermaid- began the Disney Renaissance.
Beauty and the Beast- nominated for an Oscar.

Either Snow White, for being the first, or Little Mermaid, for being the one that saved Disney from going under and started the Disney Renaissance. Also the last one to have hand-drawn animation

Best movie as well as TLM

I may be bias but i do think the artistry of this film is a masterpiece. It was the first 'stylized' animated film and it was made without the assistance of computers. I think it really set a par for other films for 101 Dalmations, Hercules, Pocahontas, in terms of exploring the dynamic possiblities for animated style.

As far as storyline and character development, Beauty and the Beast really does blow all other disney films out of the water. But any live-action film can do that. Sleeping Beauty was the first to expolre the medium.

It's just beautiful to watch -- visually alone it would win. Plus, it has an amazing score and great vocal talent for the auditory category. Mix in an AWESOME story and PHENOMENAL characters, and it wins hands-down.

Beauty and the Beast isn't the best out of these. it has the most mistakes of an animated movie EVER.

It may be a movie full of technical animation flaws but in terms of the writing, music, character development, etc...I think it's by far Disney's Best film.

I just enjoy it more.

difficult, all the classics I guess

Yes im aware that Beauty and the Beast has many flaws...
But every painters pictures have flaws...
We have flaws...
Nobodies perfect god made each and every one of us his masterpiece and we all have flaws...
This movie was beautiful...stunning, and mind-blowing. The music the plot all that stuff just came together to become a beautiful masterpiece just like us...

I think that way....funny how that is exactly what the movies about.

And what's funny, is that I've only ever noticed like 3 of these "flaws" on my own. I wasn't watching the movie to scrutinize the animation. If it's not that distracting, why take away from it and try to point out all these flaws?

I didn't even realized what the flaws were! 0_o

But this movie was sweet without being too cheesy, had great fights without being too graphic, and its' main characters were perfect by being not-so-perfect :)

What are the flaws of Beauty and the Beast?

Well, obviously Beast has flaws.

I found Belle to be a little synthetic. A little too perfect.

Or Sleeping beauty

Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderlla, should be considered Master Pieces too. Maybe TLM as well. Sleeping beauty had THE MOST BEAUTIFUL animation! The scenery was GORGEOUS and it was all so magical and no words can describe it! Snow White was a revolution in animation, and Cinderella is just so classic. Everyhting from her dress transformation to the ball and the slipper, everybody knows these scenes from Cinderella. The Little Mermaid was also beautifully animated, but I'm not sure it has that masterpiece characteristic like the other films i listed have yet. Everybody knows the scenes where Ariel sings part of your world, and what girl hasn't come out of the swimming pool hoping to look like Ariel did when she came out of the water? No doubt, it will eventually be considered a masterpiece in time, but not yet. Beauty and the Beast on the other hand is considered Disney's best film ever. It definitely deserves the title of Masterpiece.
