Early concept art of Belle and the Beast
Early concept art of Belle and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast; often considered the botella doble, magnum opus of the Walt disney company was released on November 13, 1991. As most people know, it is the only traditionally animated film to fecha to have garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. This may have been due to the approach to this film. It was so unusual for an animated film; having a screen writer, actuación director, flawless score, elements that were typically reserved for high-budget live-action films. So much care and detail was put into this film that entire libros could be written about it. However, like my anterior two artículos I shall focus solely on the creation of the film’s heroine, Belle.

The story of Beauty and the Beast had been abandoned por the original disney creative team in the 1950's. One of their many problems was they felt that in the classical story written por Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumonte, Belle (who had two selfish sisters) was too boring and too reminiscent of Cinderella. When the segundo generation of disney writers picked it up again, efforts were made to set Belle apart from her anterior princesses and so they turned to leading ladies from novels written in the midst of the Romantic Era such as Little Women and Pride and Prejudice.

Katharine Hepburn in Little Women (1933)

A common false notion is that Belle was artistically modeled after a younger Katharine Hepburn. Unfortunately, this is NOT true. Linda Woolverton, the screen writer says Belle's "personality" was largely based off the character of Jo from Little Women played por Katherine Hepburn. Katherine Hepburn herself was never used as a physical reference for Belle but undoubtedly some of her essence seeped into the character.

Overseeing the visual diseño of Belle was assigned to animators Mark Henn (who also had supervised the designs of mulan and Jasmine), & James Baxter who animated characters like Rafiki and Quazimodo and who would later cruzar, cruz over to Dreamworks and animate such characters as Sinbad (Sinbad the Sailor), Tulio (Road to Eldorado), and Moses (Prince of Egypt). While both animators focused on the look of Belle, Baxter contributed most to her mannerisms and dancing scenes.

The two animators figured they'd take a new approach to Belle and try to make her más “European” looking. In order to find what that entailed they turned to European modelos and actrices like Vivien Leigh and Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn was also used for Aurora but her rounded features were lost to the angular style of the film but now ideal for Belle. Actress Sherri Stoner who had modeled for Ariel returned as the life action reference.

Henn and Baxter even turned to classical artworks por artists like Bernini. Unbeknownst to most, Belle’s look is quite indicative of classical Baroque style, a period mentioned in the film that coincided with America’s Colonial Era, hence all the ponytails.

As for Belle's mannerisms, Baxter found his inspiration in the artwork of one of the fathers of Impressionism Edgar Degas. Degas was a French artist who is particularly known for his subject matter of dancers. This sparked Baxter to observe how trained ballerinas naturally walked and carried themselves and incorporated that into Belle. Throughout the film she walks with a dancer's turnout.

It was proposed por Art Director Brian McEntee that color was to play an important role in the film as well as the seasons and weather. The seasons would be a metaphorical reflection of the characters emotional journeys much like in Bambi. In everyone's lowest emotional point it is winter o raining and as they grow it becomes spring. In regards to Belle's wardrobe, McEntee opted to utilize the psychological impacts of colores to suggest Belle's mood.

In the first half of the film, Belle is dressed in blue. Blue is often associated with discontentment, loneliness, sorrow and it is no accident that these coincide with Belle’s feelings whenever she wears that dress. As Belle and the Beast's relationship progresses, Belle is seen in a Green dress, a color that incites calmness and relaxation. Then, during the song "Something There" she wears Pink which is popularly known for its association with young love.

Yellow, however, is the color of happiness and joy which brings us to her iconic gown. This dress has been seen before. It was directly inspired por the royal vestido worn por Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. While the film was shot in black and white, publicity and editorial shots reveal that Miss Hepburn's dress was a golden yellow. Belle's vestido was dado the rippled falda since the original diseño was deamed 'too plain'.

In addition to Audrey Hepburn, Beauty and the Beast share several similarities with Sleeping Beauty. Sleeping Beauty was made due to the success of cenicienta which had más o less saved the disney Company from bankruptcy in the 1950's. The case was very much the same with Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid in the late 80's early 90's. It is only fitting that both films end with the same dance sequence.

(Though most likely due to Beauty and the Beast's pressuring deadline.)

Belle has become undoubtedly one of the most popular of disney Princesses and rightfully so. She's a well written three-dimensional character. Probably the easiest to relate to, she is just a misunderstood girl living a humdrum life who wants more, and like so many people, she doesn't entirely know what 'more' was until it finds her. In the end, Belle's character is an ideal role model for girls everywhere teaching us an invaluable lesson to look beyond a physical exterior and see the beauty within; that true amor knows no boundaries.

Anyway, here's my princess ranking!!

13. Anna

Anna-banana is cute, but I just like the others more. :P

12. Cinderella

I don't like how cenicienta doesn't really stand up for herself! Yeah she shows a good work ethic, but damn girl! Put that backbone to good USE! That being said, she's really pretty except for her hair during the ball. Like what is UP with that headband??

Sorry it took me so long to finish this countdown. I just got lazy I guess haha. I did this countdown because while there have been multiple "Best Kiss" countdowns I have never seen the "Almost Kisses" get much appreciation. I think they are cute and suspenseful, so I thought I would give them the spotlight for once. Here are the results, compiled for your enjoyment. :)

9. Tiana and Naveen's 1st Almost Kiss

It's no surprise this kiss left first. It's the only one here that isn't romantic in the slightest, since Tiana doesn't even want to kiss him and she's only doing it to get her restaurant....

A while ago, I did a encuesta series called "A Movie Staring disney Princesses" , deciding what roles disney Princesses would play in a movie (results are down below. And then I publicado a forum, deciding plots. Although I did decide most of the plot, many people helped me get started and got the plot going in my head, so I can't take all the credit. Thank tu to those who participated- whether tu helped in the forum, voted in the encuestas o both, and I'm sorry for the long wait. This will take place in a few parts- I don't know how many exactly, but I estimate four-five.

hola there! I'm isabellagirl033 and as tu all are well aware cenicienta has been adapted many times into live-action cine though only some manage to truely be a hit. I'm going to break down some of my favourite portrayals into my parte superior, arriba 5.

5. Hillary Duff, A cenicienta Story
Despite it's cringe-worthiness and lack of loyalty to it's source, I still managed to enjoy the movie. Tween icono Hillary Duff is the last thing that comes into my mind when I think of cenicienta but she made a convincing one at that. I think this spot goes to Hillary Duff mostly due to...

I have already done this, a few months hace actually and I decided to do it again. My opinion has changed a lot, because a lot of people have made good points and so many of these good points have changed my opinion quite s bit.

13. Aurora

It's not so much that I dislike her, it's just I found her kind of bland in her movie. She was boring, though I enjoyed her sweet personality. I get she had to sleep, it was simply a part of her story, but I just didn't get to know her much. I know it sounds kind of unfair, but I find it hard to place her higher.

12. Pocahontas

I don't dislike her...

Who do tu choose? Live-action reboot o Animated???
Who do you choose? Live-action reboot or Animated???
So, since disney has release 2 live-action reboots of their disney classic animated feature. Here is what I think about which movie is better, as well as their animated counterparts.

Cinderella (1950 & 2015)

I would definitely go for the live-action version, as mentioned in my anterior articles. Ella has más personality compare to her animated counterpart, and of course, less screen-time for the mice.
However, no Bruno the dog! Also, no songs in it. I wish it was, but on the other hand, the producers and Kenneth Brannagh didn't want the movie to be to close to its original 1950 animated...

Hi guys, since frozen has took the world por storm, this articulo is basically about my initial impressions about the story-line, the songs and music, as well as the art and characters' designs back in 2003, 10 years before the movie that took the world por storm.

The Story

When I first heard that disney was going to adapt the Snow Queen, my first impression was that it was going to be faithful towards the original story por Hans Christian Anderson. Secondly, I thought that it was about 2 sisters who one of them discover to have ice powers, according to a prophecy, were separated since they were...

Hi everyone!

In this article, I’m going to compare two cine from the disney Revival, one revolving around a lost princess with magical golden hair, and the other revolving around two sisters, one of whom is a queen with ice powers.

Part A.    Which is the "better" movie?

Tangled has a más cohesive plot and seems to me to have deeper characters that interact superbly with each other. Emotions and thoughts were successfully conveyed with an abundance of facial expressions. The hair animación was astounding, but the skin and eyes could sometimes seem plastic-like o lifeless....

I know it was a while hace since I promised I would defend the disney Princesses, but it's been hard trying to figure out how to set it up.

Snow White's voice is annoying

Remember, this is a reason why people don't like her. Snow White is always shunned and for shallow reasons like this. Her looks are also insulted as well as her dress.THESE ARE NO REASONS TO HATE A PRINCESSES!!! I'm sorry for hitting the all trofeos button, but it's extremely annoying when people judge a princess por her looks and voice. It's like hating someone in real life because they're fat o they're ugly. I guess I have no...

12) The Princess and the Frog
I'm not positive but I think this has a somewhat large fanbase on Fanpop? Even if it doesn't, I don't think that I'll ever adore this film. I'll start with the positives. I amor Down in New Orleans and basically the whole beginning. When Tiana is human, it's actually very entertaining. I adore Lottie, and it just is, for lack of better word, better during this part of the film. It's funnier and much, much less obnoxious. I like Facilier and Tiana and Naveen is hilarious at times, but the segundo half of the film...oh lord. It's so annoying...half the time I can't...

I find that Snow has the opposite problem as Elsa: she is frequently just typed as a sensor (because tu know, she's all traditional and not adventurous and likes to cook and all that boring sensor stuff, right?). There's a lot of bias and stereotyping with MBTI fans, and I used to be guilty of it too (OK, sometimes I still am). though to be fair, I think Snow IS a little underdeveloped in ways, so she could really be interpreted either way. However, I'll explain why I think she uses Ni over Si.

Extraverted Feeling (Fe): No doubt about it, Snow White is warm, caring, and a social butterfly....

This is my ranking of the princes. This is probably going to be one of my harder artículos so please don't be rude.

12. Hans- I can't even describe how much I dislike this character. I hate the idea that the handsome prince has to be a jerk. One of the things I really hate about frozen is that it mocks the amor at first sight of the Walt era princess films. Yes tu don't marry a guy tu just met but I think most people are smart enough to know that, it's just common sense, yes there is no such thing as amor at first sight but that's because they're fairytales and fairytales aren't suppose to...

“Rapunzel” is the kind of story that consistently ranks highly in people’s lists of their favorito! fairy tales. With a dramatic plot, interesting characters, symbolic motifs, and the underlying theme of the redeeming power of love, the tale certainly seems to deserve such adoration. Grimm’s version of the story is perhaps the most known retelling,
 Grimm's Rapunzel

although that may have changed as of 2010 with Disney’s adaptation, Tangled, a movie just as rife with symbolism as its literary inspiration. Although both are variations on the Rapunzel narrative, Disney’s movie veers...

Hi everyone!

Recently, I publicado a pregunta asking fans to lista five personality traits most desirable in a disney princess. My traits poll, which was going to be the foundation of this article, was based on TheMusicalMolls' lista of traits; the first response. I didn't bother to check my pregunta again for other responses, but when I returned to my pregunta after I publicado the poll, I was surprised to see that más fans had bothered to answer my question. At that point, it was only a handful of people, and since I found their lists highly similar to TheMusicalMolls', I let it be. I hope I didn't...
