No! They have no rights to do that. What about free will?

If they are invited to do so by the family. My uncle is a pastor, and a lot of families come to him for assistance. (He happens to have a family, but I don't really think it matters or not).

If you are a member of a Catholic church, and you ask for a priest's advice in your family affairs, he has every right.

Otherwise, he has no more right than any other member of the community, regardless of his own familial status.

erm.....well if you join a religion you agree to conform to those rules so yes

of course he should have no rule or say over any family outside the church

....infact they don't really have a say over those in the church they more sort of guide and advise and such anyways don't they?

but you know i thought that's what priests did, heard the sheep an all

but if the family want to conform to the churches rules then isn't that what they agree to
they essentially give up some of their political freedoms to follow those believes?

Well, you should first be fine with the rules you 'agree to'. But if you really believe in God and don't go to church because you don't agree with the rules, people says you're not christian. But isn't the point believing in God and praying?

well that's why they have different sections like methodist or catholic because different sections of the church follow different rules

I am a catholic and I do believe in Jesus Christ but i really don't like the rules. They would forbid everything - abortion, working Sundays, priests getting married (...) - and they say a person has his own free will. Where?

well then your not really catholic are you? lol

perhaps you should research in to other believes of other types of churches and considering joining a difference one if you disagree with your current church

But that is a problem. Why should I change my believes if I don't like the rules?
I mean, changing believes is not like changing socks. Like I've said, I really believe in Jesus Christ.

okay erm yes
all sections of Christianity believe in jesus Christ, all the sections follow the same basic believes
but they vary on issues on how they interpret the bible and whether they have become modern or stayed orthodox ect

i think you should look at other sections of Christianity other catholic, it's a very wide religion that you don't seem to know much about, no offense, you won't have to change any of your believes about jesus or your moral values but you also won't have to fit your political believes like on abortion, marriage ect ect around the catholic rules

teNaxx, then I guess you are just a believer. If you don't like the rules, you don't really have to be Catholic you know. But I am not telling you to stop being Catholic.

Remembering my church lessons............if God inspires you to help any family in need, than let it be so.
I do have to agree that you should wait for the family to ask for help. It gets into a gray area with me here. Being raised a firm Christian, I've always been the type to ask God, "What should I do?"....and leave it in His Hands. But you know what......things have always worked out with my family and my friends' families when I did place it in God's Hands. It may not have worked out the way I had thought, but somehow it worked out anyway. Catholic or otherwise.

Imsh'allah!

(Translation: "If God wills it [it will happen]" [] signify implied phrase.)

The point in me saying this...? That The People Of The Book have many common beliefs, the least of them being placing matters larger than themselves in the hands of God.

A stretch... and very off topic... But I never give up a chance to show off my flashy Arabic skills.

teNaxx, this doesn't have much to do with your pick... just with your comments. Jesus Christ himself said that you can look inside yourself to find him - and that you can pray to him by yourself in your own home and it's just as meaningful as praying in a church. Not going to church doesn't make you ANY less of a Christian than people who DO go to church. Don't ever let anyone ever tell you any differently :)

When it comes to religious matters, I think they should be allowed. Marriage and child-rearing, they can give and be sought for advice, but not a requirement. In my opinion.
