I think your right cici, he needs solitude, even though we love him! He probably thought he couldn't (well thought) he didn't need or could get any... he looked like he was kinda of deppresed... But he's an indivdual!.

A person thinks best when they are alone because they do not let ties to them affect them and also you truly become yourself because you have no one to copy.

Nope, I've had gone on for years without having friends. It does get lonely. I do prefer having them though. Decent ones! I've made plenty of friends who turned out very fake!

For L to have friends, they would have to match or be around his intelligence which is pretty unlikely

I surely would want to be his friend but putting that aside-friends aren't for everyone and just someone doesn't have them doesn't make them weird at all it just means no one he met has really came up to his standards..and maybe he'd prefer not to have friends..

No...not having friends doesn't make someone strange. L just always preferred to work alone. There's nothing wrong with that.
