Can vampiros EAT o NOT?

Okay, just a little conflict. Correct me because I'm confused.

I've read something--a comment, maybe--that says vampiros can EAT, but comida don't do anything about their bodies, so they don't EAT. This is that commentator says:
'Edward swallowed a huge bite of pizza' something something.

Now, my side. This is in NEW MOON book page 399. Charlie and Alice were eating. And Bella thought this:
'I wondered where Alice was hiding the food.'

Hiding. The. Food. What now? Do vampiros EAT o NOT?

So, apparently, vampiros can ingest human food, but it won't feed them and they have to throw it up later.

I think they can eat. Alice and Edward did both those things but they can eat. I see it as your eating something unnesasary... alice may have just not wanted to.
