The powers that be at CBS told cm heads to hack away so they did not renew aj's contract and they cut back on paget's episode count on her new contract. I don't believe any other of the cast contracts were under negotiation at this time - makes tu wonder if they were who else might have gotten hacked. Paget also decided in lieu of it all to make season 6 her last. I've read a lot of blogs and tweets on the subject and this is what I got from it all. It's what I know to the best of my knowledge...

I agree, it seems like they could have cut costs elsewhere in the budget other than cutting cast members but how should I know I'm not the show's accountant.

I totally agree it seems to make sense to dump lower rated shows characters. The contracts up for negotiation combined with character popularity is why jj got dumped. I amor jj but she is the least popular character on a mostrar of popular characters hence her demise. It shouldn't have happened but those are some possible and plausible reasons.
