Yes because it'll come in handy. Plus, it keeps up with tradition as The Word of God is preached regularly. =) We are the Church (Body of Christ). History will help us get a good idea about present & future stuff headed our way.

I think it helps but the Bible (and it's translations/interpretations) in a historical context which is very much needed when reading the Bible on ones own.
