Chapter 14
Booth had no sooner entered the doctor’s office than he was taken to where bones was waiting for him. He could see that she had a concerned look on her face but he did not know what it was about so he asked. “Bones, what is it?”
“Booth, I want the doctor to tell you.”
“Is the baby OK?”
“Yes, she’s still kicking but it’s the other one.”
“What other one?” Booth looked at bones with a bewildered expression on his face. At that moment the doctor entered the room.
Doctor: “Thank tu Mr. Booth for coming so promptly. I wanted to talk to tu and Mrs. Booth about the babies.”
Booth: “BABIES?”
Doctor: “Yes, Oh I’m sorry. I thought Mrs. Booth had already told you. She is expecting twins.”
Booth: “Twins, but the ultrasound only showed one baby.”
Doctor: “Let me explain. The bebés are not identical twins. They are fraternal twins, which means that they come from two separate fertilized eggs.”
Booth: “Why did we not see the segundo baby?”
Bones: “They were not conceived at the same time.”
Booth: “Huh?”
Doctor: “Exactly. Usually fraternal twins come when two eggs are released at the same time and are fertilized por separate sperm and the fetuses develop at the same time, but in rare cases the eggs are released at different times a few weeks apart and are fertilized. In this instance we have one baby más developed in the womb than the other.”
Booth: “What does that mean?”
Bones: “It explains why we did not see the segundo baby because it is almost a mes younger in development and was to small to see in the ultrasound.”
Doctor: “It also means we have some added concerns about them as well.”
Booth: “What concerns?”
Doctor: “Well the first one is to make sure the segundo baby is developing normally. Once we know that we will have to consider how to delay the birth. If Mrs. Booth goes into labor to early, the segundo baby will be premature and could have some problems, so I would like to see tu again in two weeks, Mrs. Booth.”
Bones: “Yes of course, but in the meantime is there anything special that I need to do.”
Doctor: “No just keep on your vitamins and try to get enough rest for right now.”
Booth: “Is there anything I should do to help my wife?”
Doctor: “No, just take care of her and watch that she does not do anything to strenuous.”
As they walked out of the doctors’s office, each was in deep thought, but in order to pull themselves out of it they talked about nothing important.
Booth: “Bones did tu drive your car here.”
Bones: “No I took a cab from the lab.”
Booth: “Well then I’ll drive tu home. I need to get back to the office and interrogate the sister. I had her brought in for questioning.”
Bones: “I want to come along.”
Booth: “Bones tu heard the doctor. She wants tu to take it easy.”
Bones: “I know but I want to be involved with the interrogation. I don’t want to go inicial right now.”
Booth who was very capable of lectura people knew that bones needed to be with him but she would not come out and say it. It was the same with telling him that she loved him. It is very hard for her to mostrar her feelings even now.”
Booth: “All right bones but afterward we will go inicial and I want tu to rest.”

Sitting in the interrogation room was a pretty young woman, who looked as if she did not have a care in the world. She had been informed of her brother’s death but was not affected por the news. Booth entered the room with bones and introduced themselves.
Booth: “I’m special agent Seeley Booth and this is my partner Dr. Temperance Brennan from the Jeffersonian.”
The girl just looked at them with a glazed look. Booth continued. “We asked tu to come here today to discuss the death of your brother, Marty Schneider.”
She finally responded. “So ask your questions.”
Booth: “Your name is Maureen Schneider, sister of Marty Schneider is that correct?”
Maureen answered with distain: “You already know that.”
Booth: “When was the last time tu saw your brother?”
Maureen: “I really don’t remember maybe a couple of weeks ago.”
Bones: “Did tu and your brother talk about anything in particular?”
Maureen: “Oh he just wanted to know what was happening. He could not understand why I had changed.”
Bones: “Changed?”
Maureen: “I became an independent woman. I told him that I don’t need any man to tell me what to do. The only thing men are good for is to pleasure us and be sperm donors. Don’t tu agree Dr. Brennan?”
Bones: “I believe that someone has dado tu some bad advice.”
Maureen eyeing Booth: “Dr. Brennan just look at your partner wouldn’t tu like to have a romp with him. o have tu already por the look of you?”

Bones: “So tu don’t care about men. Well then who is the father of your baby? I know the father of mine.”
Booth looked from bones to Maureen and saw the bon vivant attitude start to crack on Maureen. He followed up with. “So who is the father?”
Maureen: “Only the head of our commune knows.”
Booth: “Well then we need to look into this commune of yours.”
As Booth and bones walked out of interrogation room, Booth asked. “Bones I don’t need to ask tu how tu knew she was pregnant.”
Bones: “So tu noticed how her pelvic bone has shifted to widen the birth canal.”
Booth: “No I noticed that when she saw tu her hand cradled her stomach just like tu started to do in the first few months of your pregnancy.”
Bones: “Oh.”
That night at inicial as they sat together at the mesa, tabla going over some of the reports on the case, bones leaned back on her chair and looked at Booth poring over a particular report. He looked up and saw her looking at him. “What is it Bones?’’
“Booth I was just thinking about when I first asked tu to be the father of my baby and all I wanted was your sperm.”
“What made tu think of that tonight?”
“Well I was thinking of Maureen Schneider and how she thinks of men as only good for sperm donors and then I thought about what tu dicho in the doctor’s office today.”
“What was that?”
“You asked the doctor ‘Is there anything I should do to help my wife’.”
Booth listened quietly as she added. “Booth, would tu have ever told me tu loved me o asked me to marry you?”
“Eventually Bones, but I would have to make sure tu loved me. tu know how tu disliked the idea of marriage. bones is there something bothering you.”
“Booth I would like to get married for real.”
“Bones we are really married.”
“I know but it wasn’t like we knew we were getting married.”
Booth was looking at his wife and realized that this was fundamental for her. “OK Bones, We will get married for real with all of our friends and Max can walk tu down the aisle.”
“You have to ask me.”
“Ask tu what?”
“You have to ask me to marry you.”
Booth stared intently at his wife and realized she was serious. He also could sense that this was vital for her.
“Temperance Brennan-Booth will tu marry me?”
bones laughed quietly as she answered, “I have to think about it.”
“All right but don’t think about it to long. I would like an answer before we become parents. Speaking of parents have tu talked to your dad recently.”
“Yes I called him last week. He dicho he would be back in DC before the baby comes. He still is helping Russ set up his own business and as soon as he can he will be back in town.”
“Bones can we get back to this case for one minute. There is something in this reportar that does not make sense.”
bones looked at the reportar that Booth had been looking at before and she saw the discrepancy. “Booth it looks like the one of the legs does not match any other parts of the bodies found so far. So this means we actually have four partial bodies.”
“Bones we need to find out who the fourth person is.”
“Booth can we work on this in the morning, I’m getting a little tired.”
“Bones go on to cama I’ll be just a little while longer.”
bones was lying in cama unable to sleep. She kept thinking of Maureen Schneider and her ideas about men and marriage. She could hear Booth enter the bedroom. He was trying not to wake her what he did not know was that she was not asleep. She listened as he walked around the room in the dark and felt the cama mover as he slipped beneath the covers. She could feel him moving his body closer to hers and then she felt the brush of his lips on her brow and heard him softly whisper. “I amor tu Bones.”
She rolled over to face him and with a low voice answered. “I amor tu too Booth.” He encircled her in his arms and she rested her head on his chest like it was a pillow. He kissed her again on her the parte superior, arriba of her head just like the time in that doctor’s office when he had rescued her. This time he did not have to say that he would never leave her she already knew it. She was thinking about what she would have missed and now accepted that there is a heaven and this is it. The baby was moving again. Correction babies. Then an ugly thought entered her brain but she quickly closed her mind to it. She put it into another compartment for tomorrow she did not wish to spoil her enjoyable moment with the thought of who is the father of Maureen’s baby.
