I leapt for joy when the opportunity to interview WWE wrestler and subject of Tommy Avallone\'s documentary "I Am Santa Claus" arrived. "I Am Santa Claus" is the latest film underneath the "Morgan Spurlock Presents" label. It looks at the lives of five Department Store Santas the other 364 days of the year. Its primary subjects include crusty Santa Russell, Bear-ish Santa Jim, Christmas enthusiast Mick Foley, feuding Santa Nicholas (president of the Order of Real Bearded Santas), and singer Santa Bob.
Don\'t let the tag line "Whose lap is your child sitting on" fool you. The documentary was ...
I love New York Comic Con because it combines my two favorite items - comic books and New York in the Fall. This year, NYCC sold 151,500 tickets with VIP, 3 Day and 4 Day passes selling out in 22 minutes. This year I enjoyed my visit moreso as I stayed in Manhattan rather than busing it in. Additionally, because I stayed in the city, I caught more events including the evening CosPlay. Every single day felt absolutely awesome. My Friday started off interviewing the affable Nick Foley. My early Friday afternoon included the very athletic casts of \'Bitten\' and \'The Librarians.\' My Friday after...
Every now and again an absolutely perfect film comes to pass. \'The Judge\' is one of those films with a star-studded, indie feel film about a prodigal son, \'The Judge\' hits every single moment regarding acting, staging, cinematography, sound and script.
\'The Judge\' surrounds two men that seemingly parallel to each other in personality yet who covertly diverge in different ways. Robert Downey Jr. plays Hank/Henry Palmer, a stubborn, hard-edged, law-skirting defense lawyer attempting to save his even harder-edged, yet law-abiding judge father, Joseph (Robert Duvall), from a murder conviction....
\'Guardians of the Galaxy\' delivers rocket powered awesomeness in spades. Who knew 2014 would prove the summer of kickbutt blockbuster movies?
\'Guardians of the Galaxy\' is basically a perverted \'Star Wars\' with Zoe Saldana as Gamora, a ninjitsu Princess Leia; Bradley Cooper as Rocket, a psychotic Han Solo; Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, a douchey Luke Skywalker; Vin Diesel as Groot, a mentally deprecated Chewbacca; Dave Bautista as Drax, a humor challenged warrior; and Michael Rooker as Yondu, a twisted Obi Wan Kenobi.
After years of serious Marvel films with a side of humor, I most looked fo...

\'Think Like a Man Too\' is the sequel I most looked forward to this year. Unfortunately, it\'s terrible, terrible, terrible. The writers, director and entire production staff took everything brilliant, witty, and smart about the original, tossed it out the window and gave us \'Hangovers 4.\' Unlike the first film that transcended rom com and cultural boundaries to provide three-dimensional characters with hilarity that supported the plot, \'Think Like a Man Too\' ignores the first film\'s character growth and reduces everyone to over the top anime characters without any type of plot to coherently ...

Review: \'Obvious Child\' Is A Seth Rogen Film With Brains
The \'Obvious Child\' exemplifies why Hollywood needs more female writers and directors. Rather than the typical Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow vehicle that reduces the female lead to shrillness (*cough, cough* \'Knocked Up\'), \'Obvious Child\' demonstrates that women can be randy, obnoxious kids without overtly sexualizing its lead, making her \'the girl,\' or reducing the narrative to the basic chick lit formula.
Written and directed by Gillian Robespierre and starring former-\'SNL\' one-termer Jenny Slate, \'The Obvious Child\' surrounds female comic Donna Stern. With her babyish voice, childish face, an...

Meagan Good, Michael Ealy and Simon \'One Punch\' Carr hit the red carpet at Philadelphia\'s Prince Music Theater this past Thursday night, June 12th, to kick off the Philly screening for \'Think Like a Man, Too.\' I loved the original \'Think Like a Man\' (2012) for its humour, intelligence and writing. So, of course, I asked my two favorite stars about my two favorite items in the initial film - its three-dimensional writing and its amazing actor chemistry.
Despite having two male writers and one male director using a self-help guide written by a man, the original film avoided reducing the fem...

If you love Jane Austen, 19th century novels, \'Downtown Abbey\' or anything BBC, \'Belle\' is for you. \'Belle\' surrounds an actual 18th century bi-racial heiress who dealt with issues of class, courtship and race. Directed by British director Amma Asante (\'Grange Hill\'), written by Misan Sagay (\'Their Eyes Were Watching God\') and starring Oxford-born Gugu Mbatha-Raw (\'Undercovers\'), \'Belle\' is an incredibly well-researched, witty, period appropriate British film.
Because I wrote my dissertation on Dido Elizabeth Belle, of course, I had to review this film. Between her childhood and adulthood,...
Review: \'Neighbors\' Is The Funniest Movie So Far This Year
Who would have thought a film starring Zac Efron is the mother effing funniest thing this season? Directed by Nick Stoller and written by Andrew Cohen (\'40-Year-Old-Virgin\') with former \'40-Year-Old-Virgin\' production assistant Brendan O\'Brien, \'Neighbors\' is basically what happened after the \'Knocked Up\' couple got married, had the baby, bought a house and started fighting with the frat next door. Like my two favorite 30-something films, \'40-Year-Old-Virgin\' and \'Knocked Up,\' the movie takes something potentially two-dimensional, and creates multi-dimensional layers of endless comedy throu...

Does \'Game of Thrones\' Reverse Sexism in \'Lion and Rose\'?
After last week\'s "Two Swords" and watching every single female sexually offer herself to a man or have a man threaten to sexually assault her, I wrote \'Game of Thrones\' off as a sexist piece of misogynistic garbage. But, then, this week\'s "Lion and Rose" happened. Rather than watching women define themselves through marriage or through sexual relationships with their guardsmen/twin brothers/dwarf lovers/vengeance-oriented lovers while baring their breasts, I received an AWESOME hour of TV. Warning - there be spoilers ahead!
This week improved not only because it didn\'t show female nudity,...
