Back to the Future Part 4 - Another film?

Since I was a boy I was thrilled by the Back to the Future movies and I would love to see the characters go on another adventure. I decided to write a story for a forth film. Please let my know what you think.

Back to the Future
Part 4 Paul Curran

It is a quiet evening in Doc’s home as he sits and reads the Hill Valley newspaper. The year is 1994. Marty enters the room and they discuss how their day has been.

Clara has taken the children to see a movie. With little else to do Marty suggests they take the DeLorean out for a spin and Doc reluctantly agrees.

They travel to 2085 and discover wonderful technology that is yet to be invented. Teleportation is commonplace rather than driving.

Criminals are using invisibility to conceal their identity and ordinary people are taking holidays to other solar systems, time periods and universes.

But the danger is such time travel being widely available may lead to paradoxes! Marty’s great grandson tells him he wants to go back to 1955 to see what the world was like in the distant past and hear the Clock Tower chime.

Marty warns him of the risks involving changing history by meeting people in the past. But he fails to convince his great grandson that he shouldn’t take the chance.

People have become bored in their own time and want to adventure. However the authorities ensure drivers and their passengers are adults and fully aware of the rules before allowing them to make journeys in time. People are required to pass a test before permission to enter the past or future is granted.

Marty’s great grandson Simon is due to take that test today and is really looking forward to exciting adventures he could soon experience. Simon is surprised to learn of Marty’s claim time travel was possible as early as 1985, on hundred years in the past.

He is equally surprised to hear Marty suggest a time traveler could destroy his own existence by preventing his birth. Simon asks for proof and Marty is unable to provide any. Therefore Simon dismisses Marty as a stranger who just wants to spoil his fun.

Simon prepares himself for the test later that afternoon and remains hopeful of a fun time ahead. Doc tells Marty not to bother saying anything else to Simon because it will make matters worse.

The two life long friends go for a meal and discuss the situation. Marty reveals he wants to follow Simon back to 1955 in an attempt to stop him from alternating events in any significant way. Doc reminds him that other versions of him already exist in that era and there in a real danger of meeting his other self and thereby create a paradox.

He fears Marty is taking one too many chances. But Marty insists there is no other way of ensuring Simon can go back to the future safely after his first trip in time.

Doc suggests he could put Simon to sleep so he will miss his test and not have permission to time travel. But Marty insists Simon would only take the test at a later date and still travel to 1955.

After lunch they learn Simon has past his test and makes immediate plans to travel. He doesn’t wait one minute longer than necessary for his thrilling journey. He tells his friends he will bring them back gifts and take video recordings.

This worries Marty and Doc even more. They worry Simon will make it obvious to everyone in the 50’s that he is really from the future. So they try a final time to persuade Simon not to go back until ne is fully aware of the potential repercussions affecting future events.

Marty also tells Simon his clothing is completely inappropriate for 1955. But Simon ignores all the good advice and warnings. He jumps into his newly purchased DeLorean, types in a specific time and speeds towards 88 miles per hour while Marty can only watch.

Marty and Doc rush to their time machine and Marty enters the same time coordinates that Simon had entered. After checking the area is clear Marty carefully accelerates to the necessary speed for temporal displacement to occur.

Suddenly his vehicle disappears from 2085. It reappears in 1955 and the two time travelers find themselves in a field with lots of cows and other animals Marty has to avoid running into in near pitch darkness.

The early morning conditions make it difficult to spot Simon’s car. They hear the sound of a cars engine nearby and Marty drives closer. But then they relies it is just a police car checking the area for drunk people.

Marty and Doc don’t know what part of town Simon would be more interested in visiting first considering it is a dramatically different place than a century from now. Eventually after hours of looking they find Simon’s DeLorean left in a field in now broad daylight.

It is abandoned and not even hidden. Locals are already surprised to see it especially the farmer who owns the field. He warns he will complain to the police if it is not removed. Marty doesn’t even have keys to open its door and has no way of contacting Simon!

But he tells the farmer he knows the owner and there is no need to worry. When the farmer asks for an explanation Marty is unable to provide one.

Doc suggests that Simon’s DeLorean should now be destroyed because it technically hasn’t been built yet and its presence here could cause paradoxes.

But Marty protests because that would leave Simon trapped 130 years in his past! Doc rejects this reasoning and yells it is Simon’s fault he is in this situation. However Doc understands the difficulty Simon may have in adjusting to 1955.

There is no way to foresee how Simon’s presence in the past will affect his future. Everything could change.

They decide to search around town for Simon. Hours later Marty find Simon openly carrying photography equipment from 2085. People are staring at Simon and wondering what he is doing. Marty panics but tries not to show it.

Simon asks to borrow a strangers coat as he is clearly not dressed for this weather. Marty tells strangers who have gathered on the street that Simon is from abroad and not familiar with California. The crowd gradually moves on and Marty talks with Simon privately.

He tells Simon to hide his futuristic equipment because it will make people suspicious. Simon is not happy to be told what to do. Marty tries to make him understand how serious the situation could become for them both. He asks Simon exactly what he has done so far in 1955.

He tells Marty he seen a big guy demand money from his ancestor George McFly in a convenience store. He also reveals he spoke to George and not him not to tolerate it. Marty wonders for a moment what affects this may or may not have.

He then tells Simon to move his DeLorean because the farmer has complained. Simon needs Marty’s help to find the vehicle. But before they can leave the town centre George appears again.

George is still being harassed by a group of guys and Simon can’t help himself but to say something. He warns but big guy, Biff to stop or he would be sorry. This does not worry Biff.

Biff and his gang threaten to attack Simon for getting involved. “I’m not scared” Simon responds. Simon won’t walk away while Marty tries not to do or say anything.

Simon produces a knife from his pocket and holds it towards Biff’s heart. Shocked onlookers can barely believe they eyes. “This is for all the trouble you caused in my past” Simon warns. “I won’t let you do it anymore.”

The blade is sharp and Biff is afraid to move. The gang are also worried they might get stabbed if they intervene and they don’t care about Biff that much. He is only someone they laugh at, not a true friend.

Marty knows only too well the paradoxes that could result from this act but has no sympathy for Biff, a man who has caused nothing but trouble for the McFly for generations.

Maybe everyone’s life would be easier if Biff dies in 1955 and never get the chance to become a nasty adult. Biff would never have children if he dies today and that may be for the best.
