Asexuals tend to be seen por our very sexual society as being "incomplete". Straight, gay, bi, etc. people often view them as "a flor that has yet to bloom", waiting to reach its potential. These assumptions are wrong and are offensive to those who identify as asexual.
Asexuality is quite possibly the most misunderstood of all sexual orientations. It's hardest for people to understand is that if you're asexual, you're not sexually attracted to men, women, o anyone inbetween. The first assumption for most is that a lack of sexuality is some kind of defect, because even being gay o bi is más easily relatable for people.
Similarly, some people see asexuals as "flawed" in some way, o that this particular sexual orientation is a result of trauma o childhood trauma. However, there is absolutely no evidence for this claim. These were once the beliefs about what "turned" people gay. But these beliefs are now (mostly) seen as archaic assumptions. Sure, it could be possible, but people shouldn't make such harsh generalizations about any group. Saying that asexuality o any other sexuality is a result of trauma is inferring that tu think it is inferior to being heterosexual. That's like asking a straight person, "What happened in your past that made tu straight?" It doesn't make sense.
There are about a million reasons why being asexual is better than being sexual. You're probably familiar with them. So be proud of who tu are!
So aces and ace friends, be level-headed when speaking with those who see asexuality as a kind of weakness o those see it as an inferior sexual orientation. And try to be patient with those who don't believe asexuality exists at all. (They are usually just ignorant and unable to understand other people. Oops, did I really just say that out loud?)
