I guess when one person saw it, they started to use that term too. But it isn't correct. anime is referring to the mostrar itself.

If tu want to talk about the character, tu say, "An anime character". XD

"An anime" would refer to the show, not the character. "An anime character" would, of course, refer to the character. I think it's just a popular sort of thing among some anime fans, I think...

Actually the times I've seen the question,I assumed they meant a certain anime until I saw,not a character,well that is until I saw the answers,then again in the english language,it wouldn't make sense...,but I don't think it would be correct because "an anime" refers to the show,which is (as I dicho before),if they wanted to talk about a certain anime character then they should add "character" but I guess it's became popular among some anime fans.
