A Murderer is Born – American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4 Episode 5 – “Pink Cupcakes”
So, after the creepiest of Freak Show Halloweens, what will American Horror Story deliver next? Well, we have Dandy, who I am sure is going to dish up some more psycho craziness and I am sure we will be in for some more twists now that Spalding is on the scene. Time to check out the freak show!
It seems Spalding has everything worked out as he explains his plan to ‘Esmerelda’, but she has her doubts. You can tell she has a bad feeling about this whole thing, and something tells me she is right!
Dandy’s mother awakens to a most horrific sight, Dora murdered. She knows it was Dandy and she banishes him to his room for the day. This woman kills me. Dandy doesn’t seem too perturbed by his punishment.
Spalding visits with Elsa and pitches a television spot to her and she is not happy at all as we see that she is not a fan of the television and prefers her face being on the silver screen. Esmerelda runs into a rehearsing Jimmy and she tries to calm his nervous jitters before the show by reading his future. Jimmy is taken away by her predictions and attempts to steal a kiss, but Esmerelda isn’t having that.
Back under the big top the Strong Man seems to be MIA. Jimmy heads over to his caravan to find him, but finds a drunken Desiree instead who claims she doesn’t know where he is. Their conversation turns into a confessional for Jimmy and Desiree does her best to console him by putting on the moves, but just as things are getting steamy, Desiree screams and we are surprised to see blood running down her leg.
The show is underway and Elsa begins her set but let’s just say that things don’t exactly go as she planned and she is basically shooed off the stage. I guess Spalding’s television offer isn’t looking so bad anymore.
Desiree is seen by the doctor and she is shocked to find out that she may not be as much of a freak as she thought. She is one hundred percent woman and the blood she experienced was a miscarriage. Desiree is stunned by this news and you can tell she is a bit overwhelmed. The doctor assures her she can try again for another child in a few months but cautions her not to wait too long due to her age.
Back in Dandy’s crazy world, his mother has him digging a hole for Dora’s body and they decide to plant a flower garden on top of the body. These two are a trip! We also discover through their conversation that Dandy’s daddy may have been a little psycho himself. Lovely, it runs in the family! Dandy insists he doesn’t want to be like his daddy and that is why he really wants to be an actor. It looks like his mother may be coming around to the idea.
Elsa is preparing to leave with Spalding to discuss her television show when she is topped in her tracks by the sight of two heads in the back of Spalding’s vehicle as he drives off. Spalding takes Bette and Dot for a picnic, complete with pink cupcakes. The girls seem thrilled but Spalding has other plans for these two as he has drugged the cupcakes. Lucky thing Dot has the brains, as she declines the cupcakes saying they have to watch their figure if they are to be television stars. I guess you will have to try again Spalding.
We find ourselves, once again, in Dandy’s thoughts and I am not so sure I want to be there. Since Gloria is still holding him back from his acting aspirations, he decides to become the best murderer he can be. I guess you have to have goals. Dandy heads to a club where we are surprised to see him run into the Strong Man.
It seems the Strong Man has a boyfriend on the side. This just got interesting and I must say the boyfriend, Andy, is not hard on the eyes, especially when you know the actor playing him is Matt Bomer. I do have to say though, it is kinda awkward seeing the Strong Man getting so sensitive as he professes his love to Andy and how he hates to know that Andy is giving himself up to other men.
Dell heads out after his heated discussion with Andy and Dandy decides to make his move on the handsome young fellow. Something tells me that Andy won’t be gracing us with his presence much longer.
Elsa pays Dot and Bette a visit and something tells me she is going to ensure those two don’t steal her spotlight. I think Dot and Bette know she is up to something too. Dell makes his way home to find Desiree waiting for him. She tells him about her visit to the doctor and she also tells him that she knows he is Jimmy’s father. She has decided their time together is done and moves out.
Dandy brings Andy to the clown caravan where Andy is surprised to find that Dandy doesn’t want sex, he wants something much more devious, and just like that we are treated to a horrific end to handsome Andy. Well, it was nice while it lasted.
Gloria receives a call from Regina, Dora’s daughter, who is looking for her mother. After their most awkward phone call Gloria receives another surprise when she sees Dandy standing before her covered in blood. Maybe she should have given that acting thing a chance.
Dell visits the good doctor who saw Desiree and gives him a warning that he better keep his hands off of Desiree, and to seal the deal he breaks his hands. Elsa shows up to see Gloria, and she comes bearing gifts. Things are beginning to get even more interesting as freaks turn on one another and Dandy gets creepier.
Be sure to tune in next week to see the creepiness continue!
